I participate in this project on a very tight budget. I have LOTS of pentium 2 systems not doing much and in order to work with this projectI think they would be much too slow to get the job done in a timly manner.
Is there a way I can make a beowulf cluster and run all my pentium 2's as one large folding machine? then if money is availible I could go pentium 3's with little effort. thanks in advance. |

once they come out with a linux version, yes. Linux clustering software is widely available and should bring those boxes you have back to life. It will be released soon for linux and then you can help...

I hope that your definition of "soon" means within the year. Quoting what bbover3 of the World Community Grid Administration said in the Community-Maintained FAQs, "The software that we licensed for World Community Grid came only with a Windows client. We are committed to adding a Linux client in 2005 and are currently in the planning phase of that effort." |

Reeprflame,
I'll certainly hope the Linux version will come this year .. this would speed things and competition up a bit . It is asked for in many threads already and they are working on it. Esspecially IBM-teams will benefit from this if they are sportive enough take up the glove with the "/." -team.... They will install the Linux client on some of their RS6000 and i-serie AS/400 multy cpu/partition machines .... and beleve me, you're talking about serious "not of this earth" crunching power then.. ![]() |
