Can we get the time due on work units shorten? Completed

Does anybody know the average number of days it takes for a work unit to be validated.
Now when a work unit is sent out the cruncher gets nine days to return their reply, any chance of getting this shorten?
Take the Example below:

Project Name: FightAIDS@Home
Created: 06/07/2007 07:16:23
Name: faah1707_d090n591_x2AZ8_00
Minimum Quorum: 3
Initial Replication: 3

Result Name Status Sent Time Time Due /
Return Time CPU Time (hours) Claimed/ Granted BOINC Credit
faah1707_ d090n591_ x2AZ8_ 00_ 1-- Pending Validation 06/08/2007 10:23:45 06/09/2007 05:11:39 11.37 74.3 / 0.0
faah1707_ d090n591_ x2AZ8_ 00_ 0-- In Progress 06/08/2007 10:23:34 06/17/2007 10:23:34 0.00 0.0 / 0.0
faah1707_ d090n591_ x2AZ8_ 00_ 2-- Pending Validation 06/08/2007 10:17:02 06/08/2007 19:38:44 5.39 55.7 / 0.0

In this case one cruncher returned his result within a day and the second cruncher within two days. Now, both have to wait for the third cruncher to return his result for validation. By tomorrow if no result is returned a forth work unit will have to be sent out, and cruncher 1 and 2 will have to wait a little longer.
Any chance of getting the number of days before additional work units are sent out shorten to for example 5 or 6 days, or what ever the average days are.

I would say still accept valid results if it take 9 days or longer to return, the more valid results the better, but for crunchers that get their results in on a timely basis shorten the days until additional units are sent out for Quorum.

I would say that after a week if you are still waiting for results then it is probably safe to assume that additional work units will need to be issued for Quorum.

Re: Can we get the time due on work units shorten?

dseto,

it used to be 14 days for BOINC, then it was shortened to 7 and due the 5.8 work fetch buffering adverse logic extended to 9. Still on average about 96% of the work gets validated within 4 days. One other reason is, that WCG try to accommodate all types of needs, one of them folk who buffer a lot and go off line and after a week trip return, meaning you go on vacation on Saturday, take the internet connection down, come back on Sunday the week after, connect to internet and flush the completed queue. Another is, to also allow participation of people with not so fast machines that don't crunch 24/7.

The design is in the end maximum efficiency - WCG mostly need presently exactly 3 valid copies not more not less - with maximum flexibility and as long as the server can easily handle the scheduling and buffering on the pre-assimilator storage. At any rate, those points wont go away.... it's nice to have some for a rainy day when your puter has a bad hair day.
