The appendix is our intestinal 'good bug' factory if that is what you referred to. Nowadays removed with great reluctance. Before a colonoscopy, all of those bugs and crud are cleaned out, making digestion a bit erratic afterwards. Hopefully that appendix helps put the bugs back.
