I know this has been covered before in various threads, in fact I've spent the last few hours searching, reading and checking things here. Basicly the server won't send me more than one unit at a time.
----------------------------------------I found and fixed a problem with my system clock about two weeks ago and thought that might fix the problem, but actually it's gotten to the point where this system is sitting idle for hours a day waiting for new work., I'm running BOINC 5.8.16 for linux. Network always connected. No errors or invalid returns. Machine is on 24/7. System clock is accurate. O/S is always up to date. Have checked memory and get no errors. Could someone set my work quota back to default please? Computer ID: 5027 ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dark Angel at Jun 11, 2007 9:23:03 AM] |

I found and fixed a problem with my system clock about two weeks ago and thought that might fix the problem, but actually it's gotten to the point where this system is sitting idle for hours a day waiting for new work. It's a bit self-defeating at times, recovering from a problem. If you are idle, I won't send you work. If I won't send you work, you will remain idle. Eventually, BOINC should figure it out, but it may take a few days.If you are 24/7 and no errors, it should gradually build up. If you are running OTHER BOINC projects other than WCG, the scheduler can also get mixed up and not manage the queue well. Sometimes it grinds down to nothing before refilling. Projects with similar due dates work well. General comment: Have you set your little BOINC project box to accept more work from other projects if your project runs out? Now that the UD HCMD is winding down, the other projects are getting more work and could finish faster.

Well, it's been weeks not a few days and it's not getting any better. Worse if anything,
----------------------------------------I have every project checked on the config page, as well as the option at the bottom. WCG is the only BOINC project I run. In fact I only ever have one active project on a machine at any given time. WCG has 100% of this machine's capacity, or it would if it'd use it. btw this isn't some results-rocket trying to punch more than 50 per day. It's an XP 3000+ with 1Gb of ram running Ubuntu linux. It does ok. I checked through the client files and the server seems to think it's only turned on for a couple hours a day at most. My "on_frac" was about 0.000728 or something when I looked in the "request" file. The "reply" said the same thing. It's only this AMD machine that's behaving like this, I have two Intel machines running on the same profile, one windohs and one linux, and they both work fine. One of them even gets a error about every 30 or so returned units (thanks to my daughter's internet habits). ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

DA, can you post a few sections from client_state.xml file like below:
----------------------------------------<time_stats> My initial advise, seeing the 'frac' being off the wall, would be not to fetch work, deplete work, send work to server / complete the 'ready to report' and do a project reset. The parms that compute work fetch might have veered off, after which it takes a very long time to 'work' back to nominal values (also noted in the retsof reply). The reset does not effect the 'on frac' as that is a x-project value. That may have to be edited back to 1.000000 (six decimals). For that you need to exit BOINC as the client_state.xml is a live file (you know that surely). Don't know another way to get it back into the norm.

I'll try resetting the project and see what that does. At worst I'll only frag one unit anyway so I'll give it a shot. I'll try changing that value back to 1.000000 after the reset if it doesn't do it on it's own. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

okay.... your project DCF looks a bit high. If doing 24/7, it confirms you had an event or your benchmark suggests a better performance than actually achieved.
----------------------------------------BTW, the last line of your first post: The work quota only gets muscled if you return bad work frequently. It goes up fairly rapidly for each good WU. Somewhere I think knreed posted the gauging table (a wee while back).

I finished going through what I said, plus changing that value to 1.000000 in both the files and their hidden .bak versions, restarted the system, downloaded the unit and files replaced by resetting the project and it's just downloaded another six units. If I have any further trouble, I'll delete both those files as you mentioned, unless there's more wrong in there than just that one value.

Ok then, since there's something else askew I'll stop the client, delete the files and start up again and see what happens. ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

okay, if you remain satisfied please insert before OP title [COMPLETE]. It's a little housekeeping I like to tell readers, that a resolution was found.
