Support for community advisors and techs

I just want to start this thread to show my support for the community advisors and techs.
Any of you who have been reading the recent threads, I am sure have noticed that they have been getting a lot a abuse from one individual lately.
Frankly I have only been crunching a little over a month and I started with the UD agent and then migrated to BOINC and in all my threads whenever I have had a question, comment or concern I have always gotten prompt helpful and polite replies.
I would like to ask that everyone who agrees with me reply to this thread to show their support for the great job they are doing.

I would also like to acknowledge insightful comments by Diana G., Scribe, joneill003 and BobCat13. That makes it easier to deal with the pressure and help us spread the load. I could find nothing to add at the time.

That's not primarily what we're here for but it may have something to do with feeding the troll. Be cautious. My various quotes without comment were collected for a reason. It's not just happening here at WCG. I can only take so much "civility" before I wonder what's going on.

Now I return you to your regularly scheduled words of support.

Re: Support for community advisors and techs

dseto,
It is obvious for anybody like me who reads the recent threads of the WCG forum several times a day (except some of the chat threads and most of the teams threads) that the CAs and the Techs are doing an excellent work, with outstanding patience. I think this is obvious too for anybody who occasionally comes here honestly seeking help.

But you are right, it is not because it is obvious that it does not deserve being explicitly said when that may help them to endure more than they should.

Congratulations to all of them. Jean.

PS: Special thanks to Didactylos for his pointer to "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way". This is an excellent document. Most of it was not new to me but the direct and clear way it explains things is perfect. Perhaps it would be good to mention it in the "Start Here" threads for people who genuinely wish to learn the "rules of the game".

Re: Support for community advisors and techs

It's great having these forums. I also want to express my support for the Community Advisors. I have been a member for over a year now, but just recently started keeping an eye on the forums. I'm no genius when it comes to the software we use, but I do know my way around a computer (It is, after all, what I do for a living). I try to help out any way I can, and hopefully am able to help out a few in the process. Keep up the good work, everyone!
I think it will be for the better to let the "certain somebody" be on their way and away from here. That person was giving a very negative attitude here and this is not where it belongs. The loss of contributions by this individual will be missed, contributions being valid results. I think the lack of negative postings in forums will more than make up for it.

PS how do we know this individual will not register under another username and start more threads again?

What can I say? I agree with all of the above. applause On the Postscript quoted below I would say we will know him by his behaviour and character.

Re: Support for community advisors and techs

I just wanted to thank everyone here who has made this former grid.org participant feel welcome and at home here at WCG. What most people don't seem to realize is that most, if not all, of the WCG staff and volunteers did not have anything to do with writing or maintaining the UD and Boinc agents. They are just facilitating use of these two agents for the projects all of us hope are making a difference.

Crunching for cures at WCG.

We don't, but they should be obvious.

The admins and techs have tools to deal with it.

We're a team here and when one doesn't play nice, I feel we all have a responsibility to watch each others back. I'm glad that some of my responses I didn't push 'reply to post' on blushing

peace

Re: Support for community advisors and techs

Diana G,

That reminds me of when I started a new job and my boss told me "You'll find we're all one big happy family here and we work together as a team, isn't that so John?" (turning to John for confirmation.). "Yes", replied John - "Except in an emergency and then it's every man for himself!"

David.
