UDmon probelm with HFP2!

1. the UDmon doesn't recognize the saving of the project...
2. and the HPF2 project doesn't save the progress, so reboot will erase the percentage generated!

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

1. UDmon is not supported by WCG.

2. HPF2 saves and per BOINC log, identical science to the UD agent version, does so on my machine about every 20-25 minutes (depends on how tough the attempt is):

What OS are you running and how are you closing your computer and restarting?

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

We don't support UDmon, so you should (at least in the first instance) ask the author of UDmon for help.

Better yet, don't use it.

Sorry I couldn't give a more helpful response.

edit: Sek, we did it again ;-)

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

UDmon is supporting the WCG client for monitoring it...and works great! what you do have do is run it through the batch file... biggrin

and still it didn't save, and the UD has done 21% of the calc...last save has been when I rebooted the system, at 1800h CET!
so Seker, don't bother to explain that it doesn't work when you are on the BOINC!

That is correct.

With HPF2 I have seen a couple of WUs that do not checkpoint very often. One of my most recent HPF2 WUs did only 3 saves. From starting the WU it took about 1 hour to the first checkpoint, the next checkpoints after that were at intervals of 20 to 40 minutes.

So just keep your patience.

Greetings

Re: UDmon problem with HFP2!

Well, what do you know.... I have several UD agents running WITH UD-mon, slot-less and running HCMD units exclusively, not a HPF2, so dont assume i dont know what i'm talking about.... just browse a bit on the fora to what I've posted in past on the subject and operation. It works with or without the batch, using the right parm, but there is no guarantee it will continue to work!

And AGAIN, the science is identical so if it saves like on BOINC at each attempt and will with the greatest probability do so under UD agent. Except, UD Mon might not identify it properly as a non-author maintained 3rd party piece of software.

So again the questions from my first post.... if you want help, tell us so we can identify if e.g your shutdown procedures need amendment or something else interfering with proper saving. Add to the questions the CPU speed, which will give a ballpark idea of what to expect.

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

right now it's clocking 2h of work on HPF2 calc, which is about 23%...UDmon hasn't seen any of the saves...the CPU throttle is set to 60%, on Tualatin 1,2GHz which scores 121points top on the UD agent scale....

maybe some of the HPF2 calcs are badly writen, when they left out the saves checkpoints?
do i have to right off the HPF2 from my devices?

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

KLiK,

if you visit the Project Checkpoint Saving post in the Start Here forum, you will find several ways for you to positively determine if a save was made. It includes a paragraph on the shutdown procedure and how to read the Agent Graphics to determine if a checkpoint save has happened or is near (sample screenshots included).

Taking your speed and the present lengths of work, packed with more attempts, tluehr indication of > 1 hour per attempt on a 1.2ghz CPU is very probable. I get ranges of 20-25 minutes on a C2D that churns out per core 2 times more work than my 2.53ghz P4HT.... at 100% throttle.

Ram does impact the performance particular if it's on the lower end. disk i/o will occur if you actually use the PC at which time the computations also slow down.

Anyway, read the checkpoint save post and let us know if that does not provide the answers and we take it from there.

What i see from the quorum 19 details, BOINC users are privileged, very few actual error results come back.

Re: UDmon probelm with HFP2!

OK, thanks for the info...so HPF2 is saving when the molecules allign and the graphics gets to one of the axes...so that means that the some units don't save often at all, depending of the protein structure!
the percentages got me very worried, 'cause the time of the saves isn't an issue, 'cause that to do with the CPU & mem (in which i have 200points)!

at 2015h i've seen save and the UDmon as well...so that means it works, just that the proteins determine the saving, and sometimes it's a log way to first save... :D

now it's on 37% and going...no problems yet!
