confused performance drop?

I have a 2.0 GHz Pentium, and the rating that WCG gave it was 150. But a few days ago it changed to 108. Is there any reason that it should've changed like that?

Re: performance drop?

smile Hi jimblor

The reason this happened is that when you complete a work unit and it is uploaded to the server, your profile is re-assessed and given a fresh score for the current work unit

If your system is sitting idle at this point, you will get a higher profile score than if you were doing something computer intensive like playing a graphics intensive game, as it views this as less cycles available to the current Work Unit

Sounds silly, I know, but thats the way it works unfortunarely
However it does not seem to make a great deal of difference to your points awarded for that work unit

I hope this helps to answer your question

Regards

What Graham said... for me, I would keep an eye on the Agent once in a while, and when it's uploading, I would stop everything... you can squeeze a bit more points out of your work unit... biggrin

Re: performance drop?

Simply put, each time you run a work unit, there is a "benchmark" run. Depending of if you are using the computer or not when this benchmark is run, your computer will score differently. Likely you were not using the computer during its first benchmark and were during the next.

Unless you are watching the agent like a hawk, you never will know when the benchmark is run. Which makes sense if you think about it.

So... No you did not really get a performance drop...just a measurement difference that is temporary.

Regards.

Re: performance drop?

The times when it makes a benchmark is inbetween work units, as in sending the results, and downloading a new one. Somewhere around there, it gets benchmarked.

Re: performance drop?

I know with the programs, the benchmark was run just as the WU finished and prior to sending the results. You could tell because the window would say "Preparing to send results" where it normally says "primary task is executing..." while it was benchmarking.

I have not paid enough attention, to notice if it is the same with rosetta but it sounds reasonable that it would do it the same way.

In any case, the jimblor's performance has in all likelihood not dropped, rather it is just an anomaly in the measurement.

Good Day. smile
