Smoking deadlier than Aids in 2015
Deaths caused by tobacco could kill 50 percent more people than HIV and Aids by 2015 - and also be responsible for 10 percent of all deaths worldwide. This shocking forecast was made in the World Health Organisation's recently released World Health Statistics 2007 report, which warned that the daily smoking of tobacco is most prevalent among the lowest-income households in developing economies - the poorest of the poor. "The combination of a higher prevalence of tobacco use and more limited access to health resources results in severe health inequalities and is likely to perpetuate the vicious circle of illness and poverty," the report warns. The report is the most complete set of health statistics for the WHO's 193 member states yet compiled and reveals, among others shocking statistics, the projected patterns of major causes of death for 2030. The report said that by 2015, Aids would kill 4,3 million people worldwide a year, while tobacco would be responsible for 6,4 million deaths.......... |

For a woman, the times when it is easiest to give up smoking are doubtless pregnancy and lactation. At least part of the reason must be vicarious - the thought of damaging her child.
Now, at last, a man too can have a vicarious reason for giving up smoking, namely proconception. If he can not give up smoking any other time, he should do so when he first considers proconception - playing a part in the conception of a new life. Mrs. Haldav gave up smoking every time she became pregnant, and we both gave up for her last pregnancy. Previously she had resumed smoking every time we ate out among smokers, but this time she discarded the rest of the pack after smoking one bullet. It was even easier for me, as I only smoked a pipe or a Panatella, and then and them, not in the presence of children or pregnant women, so, during Mrs. H's last PG, I, too, gave up altogether. I believe next month's restrictions will make it easier for women not to resume after pregnancy and lactation, and for thinking men after creative spermatogenesis and proconception. |

Keep it up - you will lose the urge as your fingers lose their brown coloration and your breath no longer causes people to wrinkle their noses. When you realise how much better you feel, you will lose the urge altogether and start looking for replacement activities.

c'mon you rugrats, you have only seven days to give it up - I mean give it up altogether, not just in places where your smoking can be detected by others. Your own health is at risk, as well as that of others.

Besides all the obvious reasons to quit..chemicals pose serious risks to the environment -smoking emits carbon, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide adding to the pollution of our air and all it's collective consequences.

England brings in full smoking ban
Smoking was banned from Sunday in all public buildings in England, including pubs, movie theatres, shopping malls - and even Buckingham Palace. England was the final part of the United Kingdom to broadly prohibit smoking, with Wales and Northern Ireland instituting such a ban in April and Scotland last year.
