I need to cancel an orphan WU

During service maintenance, I accidentally started the Boinc service in an old folder. There was enough information in this folder to allow a WU to be downloaded. After restarting my machine, the normal service doesn't know about this work unit, so it will never be processed.

Thanks.

Re: I need to cancel an orphan WU

Don't worry, you don't need to do anything.

The BOINC system handles this automatically; the work unit will be resent to someone else when it becomes overdue.

....alternately, open BOINC, go to Projects tab, select WCG and hit the Do Not Fetch New Work button in left margin. After, go to Tasks tab, select work unit and hit the Abort button in left margin. Return to Project tab, select WCG and hit Update. Your queue should be clear and WCG is able to send a new copy to other machine, without having to wait for the 'No Reply' expiration date.

Sekerob, you're misleading the poor guy. Read the original post again - it's an orphaned work unit, he can't abort it.
