I have my laptop set to use my work profile which I have customized, and have set it to use no more than 50% of the processor, and to wait until the computer has been idle for 5 minutes before doing any work. Despite this it runs all the time, and typically uses 98 to 99% of the processor. Now most of the time this isn't a problem, but when it is, wow does it slow stuff down. What am I doing wrong??
I am running BOINC 5.4.11 on Ubuntu 6.10 with a 2.6.17.11 kernel. |

hi Scanner_49512,
----------------------------------------hmmm, you got your self into a tangle as 5.4.11 does not support the throttle function. Upgrade to 5.8.16 and it does fine. BUT note: The BOINC CPU control works a bit quirky. With e.g. the default 60% you will see it run at near 100% for 3 seconds and 0% for 2 seconds. At 80% it runs 4 : 1 seconds. 5.8.16 or later can be obtained here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php If it runs all the time, the Activity menu (of BOINCMgr) is probably set to "Run Always". There's is an option to "Run based on preferences". Sekerob
