I did a bit of quick math to see how long before Slashdot defeats all of IBM (ie. combining the results of IBM Corporation, IBM Rochester, IBM Innovation Centres, ect.) into a single result. By ranking the teams by yesturday's number of returned points I added up all the IBM teams in the top 50.
All the IBM teams in only the top 50 returned 1,284,624 points while slashdot returned a mere 1,217,342! Not only that the IBM teams have returned over 30 million. While Slashdot... just over 6 million. Of course Slashdot will take over IBM Corporation, the leading team by returned points, tomorrow in the number of returned points! |

IBM has had hundreds of computers crunching since day one of the project, the story on Slashdot wasn't posted until Dec. 30th, at the time Slashdot had 79 users and was ranked 13th. IBM had a full 6 weeks headstart and we've pretty much caught up to them in 1. |

All the IBM teams in only the top 50 returned 1,284,624 points while slashdot returned a mere 1,217,342! In the one day since your calculation, Slashdot has increased their rate, and closed the combined IBM team lead from 5% to 4%. Slashdot is still bringing on new members, and new devices from current members at an impressive rate, and continues to show momentum. So it is very possible that for the daily total points, Slashdot will still be able to catch the combined totals of the IBM teams in the top 50 given this rate of acceleration. Perhaps even as soon as within one week. ![]() |

Yeah thats why I said "at the current rate", which wil definitively change when a Linux client is released.

Yeah thats why I said "at the current rate", which wil definitively change when a Linux client is released. When that happens, we may have to start talking about all of the other teams combined trying to catch up with Slashdot! |

I want us to get a Linux version, that'll destroy IBM. Hopefully soon after the Anti-Slashdot will show up to battle us. This could get interesting...

You know, it would be a bit strange if IBM (or grid.org, whatever) would rush development for a linux version, just to make it possible for /. to throw them off the charts entirely. Surely, some corporate prestige is also involved. I sincerely hope that the linux version will come out one day, but I`ll believe it when I see it, and even then I think it will only come out when IBM is well up to take on the challenge.
My eurocents. |

IBM is not developing the linux client. United Devices is responsible for that. One thing to note is that IBM has a quite a few test and development systems
that would enjoy running the grid software when a client becomes available for linux. By the way. Not only did the WCgrid gain a lot of members because of /. I know of at least a couple of members /. has gained because of their presence in the WCgrid. |

UD is making the software and is partnering/sponsored by IBM, so they have some say in it undoubtedly. But I agree, a Linux version would benefit IBM as well. By the way. Not only did the WCgrid gain a lot of members because of /. I know of at least a couple of members /. has gained because of their presence in the WCgrid. I, for one, welcome our new overlords ;) /. is not what it once used to be, but it's probably closer than any other techsite of that magnitude. It's a pitty that they don't have an article-section for members, like on kuro5hin.org, because that would truely rock! Then again, that's why kuro5hin exists. Cheers! |
