Re: The Formula One Thread

For Diana and others who like Monaco's Grand Prix, the quoted footage is probably extracted from Grand Prix a movie which should be seen by all F1 lovers. It is full of onboard sequences which are amazing when you consider that it has been released in 1966 and filmed in 70mm! One can probably pack 100 TV cameras used in F1 nowadays in the box of a single "light" 70mm camera of those days... Also the stability of these sequences is something that had never been seen before.

Don't forget to look at the trivia for taking some of the practical filming constraints into consideration.

Cheers. Jean.

Re: The Formula One Thread

And for those that can pick up BBC television, BBC 4 at 9pm has a programme on Graham Hill (Damon's Dad) who won Monaco 6 times besides doing the unique treble of winning the Formula 1 championship the Indy and the Le Mans 24 hour race.

Should be some good footage.

Re: The Formula One Thread

Thanks Jean. That was my first instinct- that it was a movie. Glad you said something and the trivia is terrific!!!

Hugs!

Actually he won it 5 times, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monaco_Grand_Prix#Winners
Of course, impressive enough. Just like Schumacher who also won it 5 times.
The only driver who won Monaco 6 times is the greatest driver of all time, Senna.

Re: The Formula One Thread

You're right of course Baron. I got tricked by the BBC Web Home Page I'm using wrongly giving the six figure in the blurb. The programme made it clear enough and we got some shots of the other greats.

Re: The Formula One Thread

Reference the posts on Grand Prix The Movie
It pops up on the box every now and then

Whilst living in Kent I did a week as a crowd scene extra
When they did the extra bits for the British GP
At Brands Hatch The "Film Cars " drove past the grandstands time after time as there wasn't the same quantity of spectators we had to move along the main start finish straight And as the Brit GP started in rain we were issued with Brollys if you were at the front of the fence
The final day Pete Arfon /Garner crashes at the top of paddock hill bend and we had to all run up the track to the crash site
Garner came over all Snotty and high and mighty "don't you know this is a race track , its a dangerous place" the fact that his car was beached the other cars had pulled up ready for the next take
An we had been directed to do just that
Course if that had happened in real life nowadays the GP organisers would have been given a huge fine for Track infringements it was interesting to see how it all works
The Band that is shown at the start of the GP was being doused with a fire hose as the day of filming was bright and sunny
