Re: Job Run Times

don't you love the satisfaction to work thru a 100 hour unit, hibernate, resume, hibernate, resume, and that enormous flush on the 7th day leaving all your team mates in the exhaust fumes as you're speeding by riding that ol P3

HIBERNATE? What's that? You're not saying that you don't run every machine every second of every single day - are you? I don't even like to reboot if I don't absolutely have to - I lose at least 2 or 3 minutes of crunching time.

The idea of VOLUNTARILY shutting down a machine is . . . is . . . is just . . . Ohhh I can't even bear the thought.

Re: Job Run Times

There have been many reports of "stuck" work units, I've had them myself. No progress at all after many hours. IIRC all of them have been HPF2's. I have foud that if you go to the Projects tab, suspend WCG and then resume it a few moments later, the problwm WU will resume at the last check point and carry on to completion normally. CPU time will also resume at the last check point so you still lose the time while it was "stuck". Still better than aborting it and losing everything in my opinion.

Re: Job Run Times

i just let my machines keep running and sooner or later they put out results. i have not seen any 'stuck' items since that hpf2 graphics problem a long time ago.

Re: Job Run Times

I might be retired but I am not looking for a full time job. I run other jobs under Boinc and have found that when things go screwy I just suspend that site and run something else until things sort out.

Right now I have 8 jobs running, all WCG jobs and only one in the que for some strange reason (usually there are four or six in the que.). The one in the que is estimated at 4:49:14 hours. I will watch it if I can identify it when it is running.

I think you answered your own question as to why you haven't got the WU query you used to have. You are aborting the WU over and over again, so the Grid schedualer isn't going to send you any work until you start returning some good validated results.

I would hope you would open up BOINC Manager and look at the information presented in the tabs.

What version are you running and what projects have you selected to run? How is your machine set up to crunch? 24/7 or selected times only? When you run other things besides WCG your WU is pre-empted and you have less time to crunch. Do you leave it in memory?

Times for the WU will vary. That is normal. You are going to have to go to "My Grid' and check on the results status of the WU. It is important. That Work Unit is the research we do here at WCG

I would hope that you could let the unit crunch and return and check the validation. Like the Advisiors have stated, anything that is wrong needs to be brought to their attention. When you start returning consistantly good results, then your WU query will begin to be built back up.

Yes, it can be frustrating to return errors and seemingly lose time, but the info provided in the error will be helpful. Try to not dwell on the 'lost' crunch time, and just let it go. Keep crunching and growing thru the difficulties. It really is worth it.

Looking forward to your reply.

Cheers,

Diana G.
