Snooze "button"

When I was working with the older version of UD (Cancer research, anthrax, etc.) and I "pressed" the snooze button -- it worked. With this new version, I "press" the snooze button and it says it's sleeping for "nn minutes and ss seconds" but Task Manager shows wcgridHCMD.exe is running 100% of the CPU. The 100% is accurate as everything slows down.

I am running Win XP Home SP2 with all current updates in place. I standardly put UD to sleep for 60 minutes.

What's the fix for this ??

Also, are the "scores" from the earlier version going to be connected to the new version of UD??

Re: Snooze "button"

Not read of this problem before. I run HCMD exclusively and when putting it in 'snooze', keep the agent minimized and right click on the WCG icon to select the option from the pop-up menu. It always works for me.

The score transfer from Grorg is a frequent question and have reached the point where I'm asking: Why would a separate project where many have been computing for a long time, accept/incorporate statistical data of another discontinued project and distort the individual statistics competition of WCG?

WCG dont and wont do this is the one and only reasonable position!

smile Re: Snooze "button"

I'm seeing the exact same problem. I choose 'snooze' and it shows the countdown of time for snooze, but, task manager shows wcgridHCMD.exe running near 100% CPU.
In case it matters, I'm a relatively new user, as of a few weeks ago.

Re: Snooze "button"

Can you fire up the CPU throttle tool and choose a different percent like e.g. 60% and snooze it again.

Here's the tool: http://worldcommunitygrid.org/files/WCGridMaxCPU.exe

Re: Snooze "button"

Why did you have to abort? The present WU's are just running very long. See post / thread started by JmBoullier: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=12910

I run HCMD exclusively on 2 machines and all jobs completes fine, albeit with highly varying run times.

Re: Snooze "button"

mwcox3 and wsteve, please will you make a note of the percentage complete for the work unit when it fails to snooze properly?

I don't run UD myself, but I have heard some odd reports about HCMD's behaviour during the early stages of a work unit. I'm sure the techs will be interested in any additional information you can gather.

Re: Snooze "button"

I too am having this problem. I'm running a HCMD work unit, about 15% complete, which has taken 8 hours 10 minutes. The snooze button counts down but the agent carries on regardless, changing the throttle percentage makes no difference, it carries on at 100%.

I'll abort this unit and see what happens with the next one.

Re: Snooze "button"

I downloaded another HCMD work unit and it too ignored the throttle setting and the snooze button. I aborted that unit too and am now working on a unit for genome comparison.

Re: Snooze "button"

I confirm both problems for a "just starting" HCMD WU.
While the one that ended just before was respecting the 50% throttling and the Snooze button, the new one which is still in its "0%" initial phase is running full speed and ignores the Snooze button.

Maybe that's the way programmers have found to shorten the "long initial 0% phase" problem? smile

Since my 50% throttling is simply a load balancing choice (no overheating problem) I am leaving it go and I will keep watching it every 15 minutes to see when the problem stops.

Cheers. Jean.
