Database Server trouble

Regarding the Database Server trouble thread in Known Problems, as it appears that the admins think they have things resolved, could we revisit the old schedule of running the stats four times a day? When the change was made to twice a day, the message was that that was temporary. With all the new members here from the deceased grid.org, would it help the load and reduce the time needed to run the stats by going back to the original schedule?

Re: Database Server trouble

Keith,

sfar as the records go, the increase back to 4 would reduce the uptime for visiting the My Grid page and other member maintenance functions. Previous before the last troubles, the stats updated in 35-45 minutes after the optimizations. That would increase with your 4x proposal to 4x 30-45 minutes.

Myself, I was missing the post-dinner 3/4 stats update, but agree to maximised website update as implemented by WCG (when all is well)

cheers

Re: Database Server trouble

Well, the EOD run always has lasted a full hour lately (before the index problems). I guess the real question is whether there's any "fixed cost" to running a stats run. Four 30 min. outages a day may be seen as better than two one hour outages. Same amount of downtime.

What i'm seeing so far to day is that you guys running update stats already for a third time. Same problem as yesterday? So what's the difference in what the OP is asking for!

Re: Database Server trouble

Hi Mikkie,

The difference is, that THE (WCG) guys are working diligently to remove a problem that developed in the stats runs effecting a number of website elements. Sit it out and wait so that the technicians can sort things out. and keep tabs at the Known Issues Forum for updates in the thread for the current issue where the title clearly says: Database Server trouble - Stats will run at unusual times!

cheers
