e-mail the team captain

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=13063

states that we can e-mail the team captain. When I try, I get this message, "The application is unavailable at this time, please try again later."

Re: e-mail the team captain

It works for me. May I suggest trying again?

The page is slow to load, but it does work.

Re: e-mail the team captain

The news item was:
Website Updates for May 3, 2007

Captain/Team E-mails: We have added the ability for team captains to e-mail the members of their teams. In addition, team members will be able to send e-mails to their team captain. To use this feature, just go to My Team and click the "e-mail team" or "e-mail captain" button.

To respect our members privacy, World Community Grid will not opt anyone in to receive team e-mails automatically. New members can opt-in to receive team e-mails if they select a team on the registration page. There will also be a link to the My Profile page to opt-in when a member joins a team or becomes a captain. Team e-mails will be sent to any member of the team who has opted-in to receive the e-mails. If there are no members opted-in, there is a warning message for the captain, and there is no button to send the e-mail. The same applies in reverse if the captain is not opted-in.

For the present there are stability issues that cause one or the other function not to operate as expected (see the Known Issues forum)

I just tried it and it worked but:

1. No members of my team have opted in yet, so the Team Mail button is not available.
2. The Captain is not opted in yet, so get this message:

The form below allows you to send an E-mail to the captain of your team. You can ask for help using the software, suggest recruiting ideas, or just say Hi. Fill in your message below, and World Community Grid will send an E-mail to your team captain.

Please keep in mind that if you choose to send an E-mail to your team captain, your team captain will see your E-mail address.

There is not currently a captain of your team, or the captain of the team has not opted-in to receive E-mails from members of the team.

Suggest to try again.

We apologize for the inconvenience due any service interruption.

I've tried at least 10 times. This is what I get every time:

Error

The application is unavailable at this time, please try again later.

Your action has resulted in an error.

Re: e-mail the team captain

Okay. I'll pass it on.

The website is suffering some significant problems at the moment, and nothing has worked properly since the last update. The techs are working on it.

Apologies, once more.

Re: e-mail the team captain

Just tried again and it works. Done any cookie/cache cleaning today?

Since newer members seem to have been more effected by the various index troubles, it might very well be that something went faul when you enrolled on the troublesome Sunday May.06, 2007. Propose you re-save your mail settings and try again. If all else fails, wait it out until the expected extra maintenance work is completed.

One work around i found getting that particular message was to log out, go to home page and log in again.... no guarantees.

ciao

No, but this PC probably has never been to this site before today.

I did enroll on Sunday, so I'll check my profile. Thanks.

Re: e-mail the team captain

I had not checked this checkbox in my profile "Team E-mail:". Turns out that the captain doesn't accept e-mail. Oh well...

Re: e-mail the team captain

Geof,

Thanks for reporting this. Somehow managed to miss a case when testing. Obviously there's the workaround (I think all you have to do is save your profile - you can leave the box unchecked if you want), but I've fixed the original cause and we should be updating the site with that soon.
