Re: JP´s Books Thread

Last couple of books read are Engleby by Sebastian Faulks and Falling Man by Don DeLillo.

A couple of fascinating as well as excellently written books I can recommend without reservation.

Re: JP´s Books Thread

Now just completed one about the past and one about the future, both from masters at the art of novel writing.

Imperium by Robert Harris takes you back to the life of Cicero in way that makes history a pleasure,
and then Cormac McCarthy beautifully portrays the end of the world in The Road.

Re: JP´s Books Thread

Just finished reading the Winter edition of Granta, the quarterly of which this was the 100th edition and so had a lot of very good writers contributing.
For those that don't know it, this literary magazine started in 1979 when an American, Bill Buford, decided to revive the defunct Cambridge University magazine Granta as a vehicle for good literature. It really got going when Penquin became interested and the 7th edition was based on a collection of the Best Young British writers.
It is now active on both sides of the Pond and last year had it's second go at the best young American writers.
Worth a look if you see one around, otherwise it's on subscription.
I followed that with more short stories with a collection by Margaret Atwood. My, she does write so well all her books are a joy.
