Thanks for the reply, Graham

Here is the result of Graham's noted string:
>Unfortunately we had to remove this function due to inappropriate banners being placed on a few teams pages. Teams which already had banners were allowed to retain theirs, but we disable the ability for new banners to be added.<

Wow! I'm chagrined.
All I want to do is put a picture of our clubhouse for recognition to our club members so they will be more likely to join the L.B.I.F.C. team.
It is a shame a few spoiled this funtion for the many, but can't some way of policing this funtion be added to the system? All the tecs need to do is to block inappropriate items. How much code can that take?

So "all they need to so" is check the banners for each one of the thousands of teams, including going back if anyone changes theirs? Oh, and implement a selective availability system, requiring changes to underlying software, and dealing with "issues" that will inevitably arise when someone has a complaint about their particular banner being disallowed?

Are you volunteering your time to do this so it doesn't take away from the work that would otherwise fill their time?

Things in the real world aren't as black and white as we'd like them to be. I suspect they might add such a feature at some point, but it hardly seems high priority compared to fixing actual bugs... or working on upgrades that will allow multi-processing, etc.

Re: Putting a Picture for a Team

Lets just have a discourse on the subject.
Since the ability to discard inappropriate pictures already exists, it theoretically could be done on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, don't you think?
There is already a ruling prohibiting inappropriate behavior, and the tecs decision would be final as far as most would be concerned.
Other sites do handle this in one way or another. and a little brainstorming by our tecs just might develope something.
The program I downloaded is working flawlessly, no bugs. I congratulate the tecs maintaining and those who wrote the code.

Re: Putting a Picture for a Team

Sorry if I came off a little harsh, I didn't intend to be. It is true that the techs are working as fast as they can squishing bugs and updating code, however, not to mention frequently piping up on these boards. I still don't see this issue as being a huge priority for them, however, especially since it will definitely require ongoing work and maintenance for them. And this is a BIG projects with thousands of members and thousands of teams, so it IS a lot of work being discussed.

That being said, I agree it is a good idea for something to be added in the future. As such, I think these posts better belong in the Suggestions and Feedback forum rather than New Members. Perhaps you can post one there?

Re: Putting a Picture for a Team

I think it was an over reaction to remove so many team Logos.
This could be done on the casual basis of complaint. There was no need
that I could see to Remove "so many".
It was a cut a paste solution to control a TINY, tiny few. I honestly
think this will simply blow over, and we beat up will be once again "some day", trusted angel by the project Staff.
My team page has had this image removed.
I sure hope this over-reaction will be adjusted as soon as time permits.

smile Re: Putting a Picture for a Team

I think that there are perhaps a couple of more workable solutions to this. In my mind, the best solution is for teams to build their own web sites as has been done by David Autumns, team captain for My Online Team which is the team I joined. Our team web site has such things as member biographical information, a chat room, news items and the like. If you wish to see it, click on the link in my signature line below. Another possible solution would be to allow teams to submit logos to the WCG support staff who could review them and make appropriate updates for the team. This has a drawback of taking WCG technical resources away from correcting code defects or providing enhancements for us as Compudude has been saying.

Re: Putting a Picture for a Team

thinking

I vote no team logos at all (this includes pulling down the ones that are currently displayed on team pages) until they decide to just not have them or find a better way to control them.
