Hi,
I've just experienced a similar problem, but the limit appears to be set at 2 WU per day...? Below is some of the message output from my BOINC agent Can this be fixed in some way? Hi kduesing,
----------------------------------------this message is a likely result of your computer returning work with errors. The server will limit the available work if that happens too often. What BOINC version and Operating System are you running and what WCG projects have you been running? Let us know we'll take it from there.

Your computer has returned a significant number of errors in the past few days. I would recommend that you investigate the source of those errors.

Hi,
I've just installed 5.8.16 (think old version was 5.8.12 or 14) and reset the project as well. Noticed there are many WU with errors, practically all have run 4min or less. Haven't had this problem before. Using WinXP service pack 2. No personal firewall, but is behind firewall of university network. Norton Antivirus, but that has not flagged up anything. I've signed up to all projects, including beta testing. Hope this helps. |

Norton / NAV is always on the 'usual suspect' short list. See if you can set exemptions for the Agent and the sciences in Norton, so it leaves it alone. Programs names you can find here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=10301
----------------------------------------Also force a definition update for Norton as those also have been source of trouble. Disabling Norton to see what happens would exclude it as a source of trouble. Trouble is, since you have reached your quota, you'll have to wait to test it. What we're curious about is a copy / paste of the message log part from when the work unit gets broken off after that 4 minute run. If you dig out the stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC directory you might see them.

Dear Sekerob,
Point on NAV, hasn't made problems before (for years) and same version of NAV runs on my laptop, which just a bit earlier managed to get new WUs, so doesn't appear to be the problem. Further, this is a customised corporate version of NAV supplied by the university, so I can't change many settings and could not identify any options to set exclusions manually. What is this with the quota? Why only 2 WU per day? Anyway, here's part of the output from the file you requested: 2007-05-07 01:37:07 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 2007-05-07 01:37:07 [World Community Grid] Requesting 51840 seconds of new work, and reporting 2 completed tasks 2007-05-07 01:37:12 [World Community Grid] Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 2007-05-07 01:37:12 [World Community Grid] Message from server: No work could be sent. 2007-05-07 01:37:12 [World Community Grid] Message from server: (reached daily quota of 8 results) 2007-05-07 01:37:12 [World Community Grid] Deferring communication for 23 hr 29 min 20 sec 2007-05-07 01:37:12 [World Community Grid] Reason: requested by project 2007-05-08 01:06:34 [World Community Grid] Sending scheduler request: To fetch work 2007-05-08 01:06:34 [World Community Grid] Requesting 51840 seconds of new work 2007-05-08 01:06:39 [World Community Grid] Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509] 2007-05-08 01:06:39 [World Community Grid] Deferring communication for 5 min 3 sec 2007-05-08 01:06:39 [World Community Grid] Reason: requested by project 2007-05-08 01:06:42 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file fcg1.10000841.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:42 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file fcg1.10001837.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:47 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file fcg1.10000841.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:47 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 146002 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:47 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file fcg1.10000840.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:50 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file fcg1.10001837.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:50 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 86137 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:50 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01.dpf 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file fcg1.10000840.faa 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 153313 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01.dpf 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 4596 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_x1HPV_54L.pdbqt 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_idv.pdbqt 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] Starting 10000841-10001837_1 2007-05-08 01:06:51 [World Community Grid] Starting task 10000841-10001837_1 using fcg1 version 514 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_x1HPV_54L.pdbqt 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 67092 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_idv.pdbqt 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 6496 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_idv_x1HPV_54L_01.gpf 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_AD4_parameters.dat 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] Computation for task 10000841-10001837_1 finished 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] Output file 10000841-10001837_1_0 for task 10000841-10001837_1 absent 2007-05-08 01:06:52 [World Community Grid] Starting 10000840-10001837_0 2007-05-08 01:06:53 [World Community Grid] Starting task 10000840-10001837_0 using fcg1 version 514 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_idv_x1HPV_54L_01.gpf 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 1748 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Finished download of file faah1589_idv_x1HPV_54L_01_AD4_parameters.dat 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Throughput 4259 bytes/sec 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file lb674_00001_lb674.fasta.gz 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] [file_xfer] Started download of file lb674_00001_lb674.psipred.gz 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] Computation for task 10000840-10001837_0 finished 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] Output file 10000840-10001837_0_0 for task 10000840-10001837_0 absent There is obviously more, but maybe this glimpse will help. The quota is a protection mechanism. It stops people who aren't completing work successfully from sucking down all the available work units. Instead, you are limited to a few a day until you can solve the problem.
I'm sorry, we don't know why some computers have problems with Norton, and others don't. Can you check the Norton logs, and perhaps we can get to the bottom of this? I'm tired and frustrated with Norton (and other AV programs) silently killing work. It's just plain rude, and of course Symantec aren't cooperating. |

Need to do some reading but this line twice on the smallest project Genome Comparison: 2007-05-08 01:06:54 [World Community Grid] Output file 10000840-10001837_0_0 for task 10000840-10001837_0 absent
----------------------------------------is not good. Disk integrity and memory testing are areas to look at. The Useful Utilities thread in the Start Here forum lists out a number of them, but given it's a corporate machine, talk to your IT personnel to give it a once over.
