folding seems to have stopped??

Been running the WCG program for a few weeks now on my laptop 24x7 no problem!

Problem is, current task has been running over 88 hours and seems to have been stuck on 72.6% for ages crying . It says "primary task is executing" and the rosetta, env. and pairs score is going up/down. Its a 1.4ghz P4-M, with 512mb ram and was doing at least 1 task a day.

So my question is, can they get "stuck"? Or do some tasks take ALOT longer than other??

Thanks Paul

Re: folding seems to have stopped??

Hi Cheeky

Just stick in there sometimes it takes a bit of patience.

Each protein fold is unique and some have more possibilities than others this is why you appear to have got stuck. You've just encountered a string of molecules that have a whole load of folding possibilities. In time your PC will get through and you will move on to the next. You will get just as many points doing 1 work unit that takes 100 hours as you would if you completed 10 work units of 10 hours each. Its not the results that count it the amount of work your PC is doing towards this labourious task.

Each WU length is random although the average WU is expected to last 20 hours on a 1GHz machine.

Hope this offers you some hope

Keep on Crunching

Dave
