Website Updates for May 3, 2007

We have released several exciting new features on the World Community Grid web site today! Read on for more about these updates...

* Spanish Translation: The largest change is that the website is now available in the Spanish language. Next week we will post a special welcome to our Spanish speaking World Community Grid members. Of note is that some of the Spanish content is intermingled with English content. That is because we did the translation to Spanish several months ago and have added content since then. It is our practice to add new content in English and then several times during each year, we synch-up all of the languages. The next synch-up will be in a few months.

* Captain/Team E-mails: We have added the ability for team captains to e-mail the members of their teams. In addition, team members will be able to send e-mails to their team captain. To use this feature, just go to My Team and click the "e-mail team" or "e-mail captain" button.

To respect our members privacy, World Community Grid will not opt anyone in to receive team e-mails automatically. New members can opt-in to receive team e-mails if they select a team on the registration page. There will also be a link to the My Profile page to opt-in when a member joins a team or becomes a captain. Team e-mails will be sent to any member of the team who has opted-in to receive the e-mails. If there are no members opted-in, there is a warning message for the captain, and there is no button to send the e-mail. The same applies in reverse if the captain is not opted-in.

To make this new feature as useful as possible, you can go to My Profile and select the option to receive team e-mails. You will also see that you can enter in an alternate email address that is used only for team emails.

* New members - No Results: New members with no results will be sent an e-mail after 21 days if they have not returned any results. We have been trying to simplify the registration and installation process, but there are still some members who think that they are crunching away, when really their computer is still generating idle cycles. Our hope is that this will help retain members who have willingly signed up, but, for one reason or another, are not returning results. This email will only be sent once and is designed to encourage the new member to use the Forums and Contact Us features to help them through any issues.

* The Active and Completed Research Forum Headers: The Active and Completed Research forum headers now contain a link to where the latest status report and additional information about each research project may be found.

* Help Defeat Cancer moved to the Project Archives: With the completion of this project, we are proud to move the Help Defeat Cancer project information to our Project Archives section. Keep an eye on the results page to see when new articles or papers are published by the scientists of the project.
