and her sister died when the single-engine plane Kennedy was piloting
plunged into the Atlantic Ocean near Martha's Vineyard, Mass.

July 20 1969:

At precisely 20:17 UTC, a Lunar Module being controlled by Astronaut Neil Armstrong landed on the surface of the Moon. After a couple of statements relating to control of the craft, Armstrong said the famous words, "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed."

July 24 1915:

The S.S. Eastland, a passenger ship based in Chicago and used for tours, rolled over while tied to a dock in the Chicago River. A total of 845 passengers and crew were killed in what was to become the largest loss of life disaster from a single shipwreck on the Great Lakes.

1963: Thousands killed in Yugoslav earthquake
Thousands of people are feared dead after a massive earthquake rocked the Yugoslav city of Skopje.
The first quake occurred in the Macedonian capital at about 0500 and lasted for 20 seconds.

Tremors from the earthquake were felt some 90 miles along the Vardar valley.

More than 100,000 people were made homeless immediately as three-quarters of the city's buildings were damaged or destroyed.

July 26, 1999 – Fighting in the Kargil War ended after Indian troops cleared the Drass subsector of Pakistani forces. The cause of the war was the infiltration of Pakistani soldiers and Kashmiri militants into positions on the Indian side of the Line of Control (LOC), which serves as the de facto border between the two states.
