Does increasing the amount of hard drive space you allocate to WCG actually increase the speed of the processing. I thought it was more RAM/CPU intensive than Hard Drive.
I do have the room on my hard drive to allocate 5+GB but I was just wondering if its actually worth it. |

Hi matthewkokai
----------------------------------------Increasing the amount of drive space available to Rosertta does not speed up your crunching, but the larger the drive space that you allocate, the better your overall score will be, meaning you will generate more points for your hourly effort of Crunching Work units Hope this helps Regards [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 3, 2005 9:57:35 AM] |

Hello Graham I dont understand why you should generate more points by allowing more hard drive space i would think the processer speed would determine that

Hi Marysduby
----------------------------------------If you open the box on the bottom of the screen that shows you your storage performance You will see it has five categories [1] Overall [2] Processor [3] Memory [4] Storage [5] Network The results of No 2,3,4, and 5 are combined to give you an overall performance score in No 1 So the higher the total score the higher the points per hour that is generated Example: My Overall Performance Score 172 gives me an hourly points score of 32.2 If I decrease my Storage to 5 Gig my performance goes down to 155 with an hourly points score of 28.7 So if you increasing your storage, you increases your points Does this help to answer your question Regards [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 3, 2005 7:14:11 PM] |

Hello Graham I dont understand why you should generate more points by allowing more hard drive space i would think the processer speed would determine that I agree; it makes little sense. But that's the way things are. It does no harm to allocate the max space (10gb), as currently, the project we're working on (Folding) never uses more than a couple hundred MB of space, let alone the full 1GB default storage allottment. So go ahead and bump up your space, it doens't get used anyway! Future projects for the WCG may use more space, but I'm sure we'll have plenty of warning, and this project is going to run for about a year, as I understand it, so there's lots of time to kill (and points to gain!) meanwhile by maxing out the storage allowance. |

Hello CompuDude I guess the score changes with each problem because my processor score goes up or down after it finishes a unit yesterday it was 233 today its161

I also get the same thing too, oh BTW, how do you calculate how much points per hour with the overall performance score?

Hello CompuDude I guess the score changes with each problem because my processor score goes up or down after it finishes a unit yesterday it was 233 today its161 I think I read the agent does a hardware scan as it completes each unit, looking for any changes. It calculates processor power on available CPU power, so if you happen to be doing work on your computer at that time, the number goes down. It does not affect the actual speed the WUs are completed, however, so not a huge deal. |

Using my device manager, I have changed my defailt device profile to use 10 GB of storage, but the new amount of storage is not reflected in the WCG main window.
And yes, my machine has submitted several results since I made the configuration. I understood that the new configuration would take effect after communicating with the WCG server. Is there something else that must be done? |

First thing that occurs to me is that you may not have clicked 'Save' on the Device Profile after creating it. My second thought is that you might have created a new profile but then forgotten to go to the device, click on the drop-down menu, and assign the newly named profile to that device. (Default will always be available as one of your named profiles.)
