Hi Folks! Yes! another Refugee from Grorg requiring some assistance. Are there any provisions for "SAVE or BACK-UP" during Processing? The reason for this query being that I had to do a re-boot this afternoon and I lost over 7hrs. processing time when all the Data in the Work Unit reverted to zero. Thank you in advance for your help and also Thank You for such a warm Welcome. |

Hi shack30,
The science application writes regular check points. Each science application is different, and sometimes a work unit writes very few or no check points, but that is very rare. First, what OS are you running. Vista does not allow writing to the Program Files directory. Second, which project were you running? The graphics in the Application View normally give you hints about check point writing, if you know how to interpret them. Lawrence |

Hello again Laurence!
As requested, I have four machines all running Windows XP Home, SP2, Build 2600. At this moment I have got three of them up and running, I will have number four set up later today. The machine that lost the 7hrs Processing time is only six months old, it is a Fujitsu Siemens, Genuine Intel 3.4 GHz Processor, and has a 240GB HDD with 1GB RAM (2x512MB) and 2.00GB Virtual Memory. I hope that this is enough info, Thanks again for your help! Jack. |

Hi shack30,
----------------------------------------please visit Start Here forum, Project Checkpoint Saving post for a detailed explanation of saving work and when. Each project you participate in has a different saving behavior. The slower the machine, the further in time, the saving points lie apart. AND don't use that power off or power reset button. Hitting that at the wrong time can loose you or damage the progress file. cheers

Hello Sekerob!
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I will now be able to sit down and have a good read, (not that I will be able to understand a single word of it!) Jack |

You may lose more work than normal if Windows doesn't shut down cleanly. Just something to watch out for.
