Re: How to make wcg work on windows xp with multiple users?

You need to move the start menu startup shortcut into the all users startup folder.

However, if you have a multi-user setup, may I recommend a BOINC service install? Get BOINC from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download and select the service option on install. If you do this, then WCG will run even when nobody is logged on.

However, a BOINC service install doesn't normally let you see the graphics, but you can work around this by setting the service to use the LocalSystem account, and allowing it to interact with the desktop. There are some security implications with this, but it's no worse than running BOINC under an administrator account.

Re: How to make wcg work on windows xp with multiple users?

You changed it in your profile, or in the preferences?

Sorry, BOINC preferences are confusing....

....wait, it may be a bug.

Anyway, it does no harm running all the time. But I'll get back to you after poking around a little.

Re: How to make wcg work on windows xp with multiple users?

Yes, I've confirmed it.

As a workaround, please will you open preferences again, and unselect "I want to customize my preferences for this computer only". Then go here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...iguration.do?name=Default and make the changes you want (choose "Custom Profile" then set "Do work while computer is in use?" to "No"). Then you will have to wait until your agent next contacts the server and gets the new settings.

Sorry about all this. I'll report the bug for you and get it fixed.

Confusing indeed, as the 'Preferences' option is only available in the 5.8.x 'Simple View' and not in the menu of the 'Advanced View', at least could not discover it in latter.

Re: How to make wcg work on windows xp with multiple users?

Sekerob, that's correct. Advanced users will have an advanced prefs dialog... eventually.

shingor6, this particular bug has been fixed for the next version of BOINC.
