Re: Latest versions?

WCG repackages the BOINC installer to add the WCG skin and do the first start up in the BSG mode (BOINC Simplified GUI). It is also what WCG considers to be the latest 'stable' agent. For the moment the WCG package is extra simplified and only offers the standard user installation, no 'All users' or 'Service' install.

A few are working on improvements so as to offer an 'Install for the Set and Forget people' and an 'Advanced' install with bells and wistles. This similar to the Simple and Advanced View of the Agent.

Re: Latest versions?

Almost right. The latest BOINC always starts up in simple mode, unless it's an upgrade installation.

The WCG package also attaches to WCG automatically, I think. Couldn't swear to that, though. I've never tested it.

The finesse was in the 'the first start up' (for a first time users). If one switches to advanced right away or later, the next start up will be in 'advanced' view too AFAIK :?

have a great weekend u crunchers... I'm out on a hunt to find a needle for my old 33 rpm record player (Linn Sondek).... it's not traversing the rare scratches so well any more :O

Re: Latest versions?

WCG BOINC client needs to have a version that places critical BOINC files in a directory in a different partition than the operating system to facilitate installs that rely on nightly or weekly re-imaging of hard drives

Yep, it's on Didactylos' list and driven also from the angle of Vista that does not like perpetual writing to the \program files\ dir structure.

Re: Latest versions?

You should see my list!

Don't get too excited yet. While it would be nice to make the next release, nothing is decided yet. And my post was in the CA forum.... I was waiting to work out some more details with Rom before asking for wider opinions.
