Periodically I check the WCG website for total membership. It seems to me the progress in going from 250,000 to 300,000 total members is proceeding awfully slow. Are we experiencing something of a membership plateau? Can anyone produce a chart showing total membership from the inception of WCG? That would be interesting.

Go here http://www.boincstats.com/
Click on WCG (or others to compare) Click on Users Overview (it should look like http://www.boincstats.com/stats/project_graph.php?pr=wcg&view=users if you're looking for WCG). I'm not in the mood to analyze, but there's the data. |

The Boincstats site will only give the chart for Boinc users, not the UD users.

I suppose these graphs do not account for users on the old UD client, or do they? |

UD should be gone from WCG in about two months. Good to see an IBM'er here. ![]() ![]() |

even though everyone knows about the product, coca-cola has always done frequent advertising to keep their product in front of people.
----------------------------------------so i'm sure it's important to mention wcg whenever you have a chance. at the same time we don't want ibm to do paid advertising or to solicit money. there may some other approaches such as those late-night tv/cable shows, or public radio, which could be done for free. i guess someone would have to be familiar with how they work ![]() also, coca-cola knows that people want to "win" something. maybe we could give a free computer to the first person/group that finds a certain rare object? i don't know if those lucky people who found the big prime numbers were given any prize.[Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 20, 2008 10:01:34 AM] |

Hi MNTechnoGuy
----------------------------------------We are still picking up new members but the amount of number crunching done per day is a straight line I've been picking up these missing stats from the rss feed for a while http://www.wcgwiki.org/membersandyears.cfm ![]() |

Sek please stop attacking there is no further need
----------------------------------------The 2 graphs I extract from the RSS feeds do not exist in the WCG portfolio of automatically generated graphs Our output is flat despite the increase in total membership. We are losing crunchers as fast as we are recruiting them fact ![]() |

The line of your graph is not flat but bend up. Think I pointed that out to you as well. Put a ruler on the 2 ends. It isthus that your statement "amount of number crunching done per day is a straight line" is a misrepresentation of fact.
----------------------------------------Furthermore, giving the shift from run time reporting to pure CPU time reporting the actual underlying curve subdued. Now why you consider me bringing the inverse to the table of that what you produce, the exact same data, as an attack, is something you have to qualify. Your graph has no more value than mine and the medium short and long shows nothing but a perpetual increase of the amount of CPU time contributed by the volunteers. Sekerob
