The projects of wcg are only written for intel-i386 processors. The ps3 has a different architecture as the intel processors. So the projects won't work.
If they want to support ps3 then they have to rewrite some code of the project and recompile that and moreover mantain that port. This takes a lot of time and is probably not worthwhile and they have to make a new version of boinc for ps3. And you're not the only one waiting for other architectures. Also look at the amd64 thread. And some people also would like to have a sparc port. You can look at other threads about ps 3, you find more information in there. Only folding@home has the ps3 crunching but without boinc |

Look at the beating the PC is getting from the ps3 on folding@home. |

Ps3 owners will go drooling at this.... http://www.ps3grid.net/PS3GRID/
----------------------------------------Join PS3GRID PS3GRID is in ALPHA testing on our PS3s. You may not be able to create an account or receive work units yet. 1. Read our rules and policies 2. Download here the BOINC client for the PlayStation3, install it and run it. 3. When prompted, enter http://www.ps3grid.net/PS3GRID/ You must have Linux installed on the PS3. With Linux the PS3 becomes like a normal computer for browsing the net, writing documents and running BOINC. Follow these instructions if you need to install Linux (medium expert user).

SETI@Home and SIMAP supports PS3, too.
For the SETI application look at this thread : http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=39910. The SIMAP applications are available at the download site : http://boinc.bio.wzw.tum.de/boincsimap/appdownloads.php |

That is correct. No ps3. No xbox. There are some other projects already mentioned above.

Hmm. I have BOINC running on original XBOX modded for Linux. Unfortunately < 59 MB WP are scarce by now.

i'm running folding@home on PS3...it is a similar project of our HPF ph2 - or the same, from the looks of it!
----------------------------------------and btw, SONY has that program for download on every PS3 with newer version of OS (mine was 1.8, and later it's 1.91)... |

i'm running folding@home on PS3...it is a similar project of our HPF ph2 - or the same, from the looks of it! They're a little different... HPF2 is trying to determine a protein structure from its sequence (and structure determines function; we don't know what many of the proteins do b/c we don't know their structure). Folding@home is more about the molecular dynamics of protein folding; how proteins mis-fold and cause diseases like Huntingtons, etc. |
