Migrating from WCG Agent to BOINC?

I have a certain login name on the Wold Community Grid Agent, which processes the various projects there. Can I somehow use this same profile/login name in the BOINC agent, and continue to accumulate work hours there? I already run SETI on BOINC, and I wanted somehow to do all the work in BOINC and get rid of the WCG Agent, but I haven't really undestood how to do it.

Any help is appreciated. confused

Re: Migrating from WCG Agent to BOINC?

Now I have upgraded my computer to something with more than 1 core, i decided to start using BOINC instead of the UD Agent.

I have tried to put in my original login/password but it will not accept it. Am i doing something wrong? I have been crunching numbers for many years, so I have a long history of time dedicated to this process.

I would prefer to use BOINC now, but I don't want to lose the years of service I have provided.

If someone can explain to me, what I may have done wrong.

I pasted in the project website i wanted to use - I added the WCG website to the Program, but is this the same one as the UD one I have been using for many years? I think thats where my problem is.

If I need to add the UD one, how do I go about doing this?

What is your original username? You registered "thebritscott" today. I suggest you use the "forgot password" feature.

To make sure you are using the right username, open up the UD agent, and look in the corner where it gives your username.

When you attach in BOINC, the URL you need is www.worldcommunitygrid.org - watch out for typos, it's a looooong URL.

Re: Migrating from WCG Agent to BOINC?

my login name in Ud is different, as when I signed up here, it said I could not use my original. I tried to login with my original then tried to create it.

Although when I am use UD, and go to my stats I can use my original login and password with no problem.

www.grid.org i can use my original.
WCG i cannot - had to register a new one.

Are GRID and WCG associated so I should be able to use my Grid Login?

Thanks for all help

Hello thebritscott,
Grid.org and WCG both use the UD client but are totally separate organizations.

Re: Migrating from WCG Agent to BOINC?

If you see/saw a dark blue pill icon in the right hand bottom system tray, you were running www.grid.org, a different organisation, which does not roll up with www.worldcommunitygrid.org which runs a later version of the same agent and is recognised by the icon in system tray. When running BOINC you see this icon or if running in the BOINC simple view mode, the same icon aswhat you see in the address bar or the browser tab, visiting these fora.

Points earned with the WCG version of the UD agent and BOINC consolidate in the My Grid statistics.

The beauty of BOINC is, that whatever BOINC project you run, credits, which are different to WCG points, consolidate at e.g. BOINCstats.
