No 'finished' file... repeatedly

I assume there's somewhere I should report these, but I'm having difficulty finding it. Thank you advance for your help.

I'm receiving these messages:
4/3/2007 6:44:17 AM|World Community Grid|Task la123_00040_7 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
4/3/2007 6:44:17 AM|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.
4/3/2007 6:44:17 AM|World Community Grid|Task la124_00095_3 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
4/3/2007 6:44:17 AM|World Community Grid|If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

I've gotten these before, but I returned from a four day stay out of town, and that's all my machine did in my absence. I tried the recommended reset, and it does not seem to have helped.

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

Hi krilia,

with 'that's all my machine did' meaning page after page? Very strange as it usually happens only when synchronizing the system clock.

Try detaching the project. Go to Projects tab, select WCG and detach/remove with button in left margin.
Exit BOINC and check in the TaskManager that nothing of BOINC or WCG is still running.
Open file explorer, find \program files\boinc\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org dir and empty/delete it.
Than in the Menu 'Advanced' select Attach Project. type www.worldcommunitygrid.org and existing/current member box, than the member name password.

Let us know

PS and lawrencehardin would say: Do a System Boot to refresh the system. Very valid advise as Windows does get confused the longer it runs uninterrupted.

cheers

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

It did seem like it stuck with just those two files (tasks, whatever the official way to refer to them is :))

I'll give your suggestions a try when I get home from work and let you know if that does it. Thanks.

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

I'm signed up for all projects, and it gave me a work unit from a different one, rather than one of the ones I was having issues with, so hopefully the problem is gone. Thanks.

And that's not just a Proteome unit, so it's bigger than that. I'll keep digging for answers... it was going perfectly fine for the first, eh, three weeks I was doing this and now - boom. I managed to complete one unit completely since it started doing this (Genome Comparison - that's why I thought it was project related), and that's it. Depressing.

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

Well for one, you seem to have a setting that stops the agent when you use the computer: "Suspending computation - user is activ". For starters, would disable that feature as it likely unloads the job from memory. Secondly, suggest to activate the 'Leave in Memory". Even when work is paused, it will stay in ram, zero cpu time use, and be able to resume real quick.

The settings in the device profile are:

Do work while computer is in use? Yes
Leave applications in memory while preempted? Yes

give it a try and let us know:

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

I am haveing a similar problem. Everytime I reboot my computer, It starts a new unit. The work I was doing is lost, and I get an error for it.

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

Dan, please past a piece of the message log from when you started up BOINC (version info), to 5 lines after the error. Only than can we make a formed opinion.

Booting as in hitting the power button carries risk of damaging the work unit if it was in the middle of a save. Follow proper windows close or restart procedure. It's though unusual in that normally a WU would just restart from the beginning.

The 'Issue?' link below leads to a page that identifies the items we are interested in.

Re: No 'finished' file... repeatedly

'Restarting' is different from 'Starting' a new job like the one below.

04/04/2007 14:41:17|World Community Grid|Starting task faah1462_d042n333_x2AZ8_02_1 using faah version 528

Really need to see the actual errors in the log which you can find in the 'stdoutdae.txt' file, if no longer visible in the message tab.

If too frequent interrupted, the job will never reach the first checkpoint and just goes from the beginning on and on. What does the percent progress say in the Task tab when it is 'Restarting'?

Those Genome Comparison jobs should complete on a machine with that spec in about 2 to 3 hours
