hi, i was wondering if there is any way of increasing the CPU throttle for projects. I have noticed in device manager and in the applicatin portion of the client that projects really only run the cpu at 60%. is there a way to up this number? i have already tried setting hihger priority in device manager and i cant, acces denied. p.s. i am unfortunately using Vista.

Sure. Get the throttle adjusting tool here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=cpuuse#230

It sure would be nice if that was just an adjustable knob in the standard UI rather than having to be turned by a separate tool.
I also find it surprising that in this day and age when multiple CPU workstations are common that the default for these is also just 60% of one processor. I would think that they should be able to run 100% of one processor (e.g. 50% of the total available on a 2 processor system, etc) just fine. Lastly, on a dual processor system (my notebook) I was surprised to see that only 25% is being used by UD software (i.e. 50% of one processor), so it isn't even getting up to that 60% of one processor figure. |

Very simply look for posts that discuss 'Migration ' to BOINC. I think the default setting is now 16 cores (it find how many there really are). We have at least 1 monster running on WCG with 12 cores in it. Throttle, not mentioned in the comparison is now also available on BOINC 5.8.15..... get to the download page here for the version with WCG skin.

In this day and age they still haven't figured out out to get many laptops to run without burning up. Many at 100% were complaining here that they were running too hot. Setting the default throttle at 60% got rid of most of the complaints. If any asked about the throttle tool, they could be told how to approach 100%.
