Hey Everyone,
I'm just getting into cluster/grid computing, and I think WCG is awesome! I wanted to use some of my spare PC's as a cluster. Like have one scheduling node, and 3 or 4 computing nodes. Is there anyway possible I can do this w/ UD's tool, or BONIC's tool? Could I use another clustering software like ROCKS? Any help woulld be appreciated. thanks! - Philippe |

Well, in light of the KISS principle, if you have connectivity to the internet with each computer, simply load BOINC on each and let 'er rip. What would you see clustering adding in that situation? Now if only one machine had connectivity, you have a different situation.

With clustering, there is parallel processing. So things can be worked on and processed faster (depending on the amount of nodes that I add).

It is already a-synchronous parallel processing. The problem has been pre-split into millions of chunks and send out randomly to whoever wants to make idle CPU time available... super high redundancy, since whatever chunk falls over, an other CPU somewhere in the world picks up. That's the whole concept of volunteer grid computing.
----------------------------------------The only one who's experimenting with SMP like processing on single machines is F@H. They happened to start a beta just last Sunday. Some have been experimenting with proxy servers, but only to store finished work and do a bulk upload of results..... these members or teams like to show hi in the statistics for a day in a week or a month and 'stampede' the statistics.
