confused Another "Agent paused" error

I'm also having the "Agent paused" error. The software connects, downloads a 4+meg package, then displays "No task is executing" for a second or two, then the hated "Agent paused" error.

All my ports out are open from my router. No interference from any firewall software. I've got some new antivirus & antispyware software, but they seem to be good about notifying me of incidents. Oh, I just downloaded the wcga, so it's never worked for me so far. Not a case where it somehow broke...

I'm having trouble figuring out either 1) how this software works or 2) how I could have a problem with it. As I understand it, you simply need ports 80 and 443 open outbound. No problem there. Any help please?

Thanks,
jaybee

That's weird. If you were having port/firewall/antivirus config issues, then I would expect it to get stopped before the 4 MB download. In your device profile, what are your disk and time settings? My disk setting is 10 GB and all the time settings are 12 AM, all days are "always on"

Re: Another "Agent paused" error

This is just a 'Me Too' post. I keep downloading something fairly big, but then a big pile of nothing.

cool Re: Another "Agent paused" error

Normally this is caused by Internet security programs. For example, are you running McAfee version 8.0?

Re: Another "Agent paused" error

Kevin --

I don't know if it is still a problem, but early on in the project, I found that if I had my device storage set to 10 Gbytes I had similar problems. It went away when I reduced the storage to 5 Gbytes. Let us know if you find that this turns out to still be a problem and maybe we can get the technical support for WCGrid to address it.

My schedule is Every day/Anytime/Anytime. The largest storage option under 1GB was 90MB confused , that's what I chose.

No McAfee. I've got AVG antivirus and Spybot active in the system tray. I believe Spywareblaster is resident as well. I stopped the services for these plus Win firewall and tried the agent startup again -- no luck. It finishes the download and gives me the same two error messages.

cool Re: Another "Agent paused" error

jaybee, this sounds puzzling. And you are right, we have never heard a word of complaint about AVG anti-virus. Have you read the page on 'Agent Paused' at http://worldcommunitygrid.org/join_now/agent_paused.html ?

Have you read the requirements and do you have Virtual Memory enabled? Are you running an Athlon 64 with NX enabled?

As a last resort, would you consider uninstalling, then reinstalling? We have cleared up several puzzles that way, though without ever understanding what went wrong with the first install. [Just be sure to check the 'Previous Member' box during a reinstall, then use your login.]

I've read the "agent paused" help page a couple times. Most of the problem scenarios involve internet connectivity; that doesn't seem to be the source of my error.

I've got gobs of memory, physical & virtual. I do have NX enabled on my A64 tho... what's that about? Haven't heard that as a possible issue.

I've overclocked the snot out of this AMD champ... I'll turn down some settings (if I ever reboot), but it's been completely stable at this config. I'll try a reinstall too if I can't figure anything else out. Maybe it'll be as simple as bypassing DEP for this program...

I just rebooted & the client's working fine. Looks like DEP was the problem. Thanks all.
