Deactivating a computer

I have 2 machines (macs) running boinc and want to deactive one. Before I hit the "no new tasks button, I want to make sure it won't affect my other machine. Is this the corect way? After I do this, then I press the detach button, right? I have read the instructions but want to make sure I don't screw up my other machine. tnks

Bearcat....... crying

You know the Hotel California concept? Well here u are allowed to vacate the rooms one by one. Do exactly what u planned... No More Tasks, let it finish whatever it still had in progress, than detach. If u still have WCG jobs, please cancel/abort them first, so WCG knows u do not intend to finsih them and extra copies can be send to other members.

Multiple machines can be registered to a single user, but they operate strictly individual.

cheers

Re: Deactivating a computer

Is there any way for WCG to return work units to the available pool?

I just blew up a linux boinc installation and locked down several work units with it.

Basically the device identified in my profile as "136376" no longer exists. Unfortunately, it has locked down the following work units:

B22243_ 0028_ PTMABL-0-1-10--
faah1412_ d204n155_ x2BPW_ 00--
B22243_ 0008_ PTMABL-0-0-16--
faah1412_ d204n137_ x2BPW_ 00--
faah1412_ d204n094_ x2BPW_ 00--
10000043-10001408_ --

I hate to make everyone else crunching these work units wait a week or more before getting credit for them. sad

Sorry everybody - my linux skilz need a little work.

Re: Deactivating a computer

Hello CKizer,
Is there any way for WCG to return work units to the available pool?

No. Fortunately, most people do not check the Results Status page obsessively so a delay for a week will probably not cause anybody to feel troubled.

biggrin Well, we can hope so, anyway.
