Dust your computer!

your really not going to like this , dust your computer means taking of the lid and sticking your vacum cleaner into your cpu, regularily especially if you dont have a hermatically seled room, air conditioning ,ozone removers etc ,to take the dust out of the air.Iadvise you all, look at your cooling fins in your cpu and i bet its covered in dust
thus raising the temp of the cpu.Apart from the magicians amongst us there is no excuse for not mentioning this subject earlier!

Re: Dust your computer!

Hi George

Thats an excellent point

I leave the side off my case as its easier to use a compressed air cannister to blow out the dust from my power supply fan cpu fan and my graphics card fan which I do twice a week

No overheating here

Good of you to bring this to the attention of the members here

Yuu must be a Techie

Re: Dust your computer!

Leaving the cover off of your computer is not necessarily the best way to manage heat. It will work fine for some systems, but other systems have carefully managed airflow patterns that go to hell if the cover is off... components that are supposed to have air flowing across them do not get it because the airflow now shoots straight out, for instance.

Obviously we are discussing desktops here, not notebook computers.

Keep an eye on your temps using the tools that came with your computer, or the excellent (and free!) MotherBoard Monitor if you did not get any such software with your system. This will not work with every system, but covers a lot of them. It's also not 100% user-friendly for the non-technical. But it's great software to have once you're up and running, if you are skirting the edge of overheating your system by running it at 100% for long periods of time.

Re: Dust your computer!

Hi Cajunqueen

smile A Happy New Year to You

I appreciate you input, but not at the tone with which you impart it

Please try to be a little less abrasive towards members and guests here

Bravado is very unfashionable on forums

I am sure this is not too much to ask

Best Regards

No, it should not hurt your machine. Just make sure it's not packed full of dust bunnies so the air flows freely, as others have noted in this thread. wink

Re: Dust your computer!

I just take the tower outside and take the air compresser to it. Works like a charm.
