Just dropped in to see how the old Vultures were doing. I don't post often, but still send in what WU's I can. Keep up the good work. Every bit helps in the effort to keep the team total up there...I'm out of town for another 1.5 weeks, but will resume work late on August 8. I think I may have peaked on my results ranking, had the same rank for three days now elusively close to the top 1,000 at 1066. Can't justify loading more hardware just for the Grid (OK, maybe I can't even justify what I'm already running but I'm getting away with it so far) so I'll have to settle for evangelizing the cause and roping in some more team members. Ranking is still improving on points and runtime and it will be interesting to see where they settle.
As soon as that lottery win comes along though.... |

Looks like Dengue modules are thin on the ground and I only had them and Rice selected. Gone to all Projects now and am pushing more results through per day since the Rice is matched to CPU to be 8 hours or thereabouts. I have noticed that there seems to be a dead-time on any CPU which seems to be linked to the module time but is not linear so shorter modules result in less dead-time per day than longer ones.
Of course this may all be total rubbish and down to the way my machines are setup....meh |

If so, this should definitely not be happening. Set up your boinc device profiles such that your computers are caching 2 or 3 days work in advance. This is also useful in the case where the WCG servers go down and no work units get sent out for a few days. I remember a couple of years back during the Christmas holidays when the servers went down and no-one could get in to fix them because of the heavy snowfall... |

I'd recommed to set up always the option that if no work is aviable, allow to get work from other projects.
----------------------------------------worked like a charm to me in those days when they changed dddt and faah to single tasks WU only. an, another good news : my friend decided to try wcg and to run it on his web server, a Celeron Tualatin PIII, 1400. It is setted to 60% CPU time - well better then nothing. A WU- of hpf2 will cost him 16 hours but this is better then nothing as the server is usual always on. Congrats on getting your colleague onto the team. With regard to the dead time stuff though, I am set on all boxes to have at least 5 days work lined up and the dead time is probably best described with one of my boxes which is a 'hot spare' and does nothing but WCG. When running small (<6 hour) modules I get credited about 23.5 hours per day. When I run 8'ish hour modules it can average at less than 23 hours per day. Not a huge difference but I've never understood it.

I don't have a "hot-spare" box to compare with. Should be a big day from me today. Managed to get 32 validated results so far, plus 10 pending validation. 32 results should be a good 20,000 points I reckon. ![]() |

Having a nightmare here...for no apparent reason I got half my normal results yesterday and the mid-day(ish) results show only a fifth of the normal. All my boxes seem to be working OK but the messaging page shows almost nothing reporting as completed. Going to keep a close eye on things and see what's not happening.
