Now here's an oddity...I thought my new Phenom box completed Dengue modules in about half the time of Rice modules whilst on my Intel boxes it was the reverse...but my 'Beast' with it's two quad core Xeons does Dengue quicker too. Could it be that multi-core CPUs process this stuff very differently to single-core CPUs?

Multicores shouldn't process things differently, but there is a floating point register advantage for AMDs.
----------------------------------------Remember, Rice is set up to run as many workunits in 8 hours as it can, regardless of what kind of machine. 8 hours is 8 hours. I thought I had a couple of days more in here, but they didn't get saved. I lost some processing time due to microsoft updates. Some things didn't get restarted in Vista. my main cruncher is now a mac, retsof, skip M$, get a real OS
---------------------------------------- and on your "crunch only machines" I suggest Linux the system to be taken, its free and BOINC runs fine here too. ( I tested it on my Pentium M 780 System)  I just wish that I had the money to buy a Q6600 from intel   |

I'm still amazed at how we're consistently moving down the rankings... and yet we're consistently getting in our own top 50 points per day.
Hey ho. I can't crunch any faster unless I leave my quad core on 24/7. At the moment it's only on when I'm working on it... Maybe I'll up the overclock from 3 GHz to 3.6...  |

Did try running one of my machines on Linux but couldn't tune it to get BOINC running right. Someone did suggest I see how 'Nice' it was running but unfortunately my Linux skills are limited to areas where knowledge of DOS helps so although I could find out what they were talking about, doing something about it was another matter.

Hey ho. I can't crunch any faster unless I leave my quad core on 24/7. At the moment it's only on when I'm working on it... What are you saving it for? Mine are running 24/7.Two other friends have Mac boat anchors. The whole machines died ... no partial replacements on those things ... all or nothing. There are more quad cores coming in from the bigger teams, so we're going to slip a little.
