The 3.2GHz X2 seems to be stable at 10% overclocking to 3.52GHz

I got a computation error even on the waiting workunits. That computer will now have to work its way up from quota=2/day. After several blue screens, I'll try again. The vista repair said that there was no problem. Just wondered if there was a thread for the team which I could monitor to see what's happening. This one is almost unusable with 200+ lines of fairly static results info, could it be stripped down at all? Doesn't help that the posts are oldest first with no 'Last Page' function that I can see.
ps sorry about distorting the stats ove the last 2/3 weeks but I got a new toy with 2 Quad-core CPUs and it is fun watching it turn out a result every 15 minutes or so.  Leomas |

All of your posts (one) are listed here, and very few other members post anything at all.Uuuuhhh... THIS is the team thread. I have posted a "top 50" statistic daily just to keep our thread near the top of the team page. I also get tired of talking to a black hole without response, and that is a simple way. Every day in the top 50 means that the bottom moves up each time. It should be harder, but you new members with new toys help out, keeping our best work in the future. Other teams are doing the same, so we stay at about the same point in the rankings, just out of the top 100 teams. I have joined all open challenges, so we also get visibility that way. Putting team info, graphics and links in the signature *IS* allowed. I get tired of "rah, rah". Messages may not be edited if they are older than 60 days. Another choice to limit the number of pages is to change the number of messages you display per page. Mine is set at 50, meaning that this thread only has 11 pages. One of the chat game threads has 87 of the same size pages. I am doing as much as I can in the same message to limit the message count. When I get in the mood, I may have this locked and start another thread, but it will look similar to this one. I had a four hour drive the day before yesterday and another 4 hour return which ended at 1:30am. We'll take all that we can get. We are looking for cures and new drugs, so the sooner the better.Vista was still unstable, so I reformatted C: and started over at stock speed of 3.2GHz. The bonus was that the 2 wu/day from the bad calculations went away since I installed a new BOINC device. I seem to have an overall quota of 144 workunits/day. We'll see what happens today since I've been sending all good ones on this computer this afternoon. When Vista SP1 gets here, it might be ready for prime time. We're still leaping in the U.S., but it's already March 1 in Europe, St. David's Day in Wales. Here's the graphic from our team sponsor, visible only that day (until they recycle it next year). Or a server mobo? Or Intel Skulltrail? Vista was still unstable, so I reformatted C: and started over at stock speed of 3.2GHz. So you are abandoning the overclock then? Did you try upping the Vcore? How were you testing the stability? I might try and up my Q6600 to 3.2 or 3.4 GHz soon; currently running on 3GHz which is already a 25% overclock though. Also I'll have a new iMac at work soon, which'll be crunching on a 2.8 GHz Core2Duo. What happened to jeffisgood? He was posting some really high numbers, but now he seems to have stopped...  |

No, I didn't change the Vcore or Vmem voltages. Vista Ultimate is quite mushy. I ruined the registry when I restarted after waiting 5 minutes for it to load. I should have waited 10 minutes. (It could have been installing some updates.)
----------------------------------------A lot depends on the chip. Another newer 2.0GHz chip O/C happily to 2.4GHz without moving voltages at all. Two other 2.4GHz chips do not like to be overclocked at all. The others are all Win XP which doesn't interfere nearly as much. CPU temp only got to 48 degrees C when I was playing with 10% O/C, so I have a lot of room to spare to mess with the voltages in the future. It is only about 42 degrees C now. I think I'll wait for Vista SP1 to come out, which should address some performance issues with Vista itself. Then I'll try again. In the meantime, the new Vista and BOINC installs are stable, and workunits are running well at the stock 3.2GHz speed.

I'm afraid that I am a really sad git in IT (hence joining the Register's team) and have just added a new server to my home network. It's got dual 2.4GHz Quad-core cpu's and will eventually be used for my Lotus Note/Domino server which will be running mail/web/Blackberry etc so I can keep up to date on the products.
Will possibly be looking to get another box of the same spec to use as a PDC so could see my stats pushing up. I was stunned to see the change from half a dozen so-so boxes getting 20-30 results on a good day up to over 200 a day with the new box on board. Just worrried this may have been the cause of jeffisgood going as it seemed to co-incide with passing his results total. Hope I haven't upset him. |

No. I don't think so. Jeffisgood didn't say anything about it here that I can recall about leaving. He's only posted one message anywhere, this one on Jan 16. His last result was sent Feb 11.
