A proven path to be able to run UD agent uninterruptedly on vista is not to install it in the program files directory structure e.g. on a different partition. Not going to ask if the quoted avenue was walked as a solution Well, as windows XP had not changed, nor was my problem associated with vista, that solution suggested does not appear to match the problem. Part of it turned out to be setting in KP, which has been corrected - now the issue become the KP is declaring UD to be an invader. Changing setting on two of the parameters seems to have corrected the original problem. AS an FYI, I know of at least 3 people who have dropped out of the project, due tot the inability to get get the program to work with various VP programs. It might be a good idea, to post the fixes for some of the more common programs, as not everyone is willing to or able to work through the possible options |

Well,I am using windows XP, service pk 2 and getting the same message. Turned of Kasersky virus protection - nothing. Any ideas? Do you Think it is the IT System priming ITself for Selfless Feedback from ITs Imaginative Servers ie SMARTer Users of Digital Binary? The Grid building ITself into a Quantum Universal Machine Creating In House Central Processor Units Networking Throughout and Within All ITs Virtual Domains. Now that is a Simply Complex AI Software Program which is more than a mere PROMIS ...... when IT is into DeLivery of Equity. That would be a New Wave of Special Applications Programs to surf to whatever destination we may care enough to choose. Do you think Vista is a Virtualisation Control Program? |

@amandfromMars, this is a support thread in the UD Support forum!
----------------------------------------@Byrona19, there was just another discovery posted about Kaspersky (KP?), requiring the fulll un-install and revert to earlier version: See "Problems with Anti-Virus and Firewall Programs"

I asked and had a reply on the KP form - they suggested that I
"try enabling the compatibility mode in settings->service & restart the pc." Which resolved the conflict Bron |

Hi Byrona,
----------------------------------------Never used 'Compatibility Mode' in WXP, but presume u set it in the short-cut that starts up the WCG(UD) Agent. Which mode have you chosen or were told to use (W2K,W98,W98,WNT)? The rebooting is strange as simply exiting the agent and restarting it from the changed short-cut (in startup folder i presume) should have achieved the same? It becomes pretty annoying that the apps now have to adapt to security software and not the other way around. What version of Kaspersky did the problems start? cheers Added: Tested WCG(UD) Agent on WXP Pro by setting compatibility mode to W2K with a small HCMD job. Just relaunching the agent was sufficient. It to getting same CPU time and continues to respond correctly to the throttle, so this looks like a palpable workaround. If anyone could test this on Vista. The HowToGeek has an article: Using Windows Vista Compatibility Mode. It might though still require an install outside of the \Program Files\ structure.

I have Vista Home Premium on a dual core AMD and did a bunch of jobs until I rebooted and now I'm stuck with 'unable to back-off....'
I saw the 'change permissions' thread, but I'm new to Vista and don't know how to do that. Is there a thread somewhere to tell how to do that? On my menu, settings just brings up the same XP like control panel, etc.. not 'try enabling the compatibility mode in settings->service & restart the pc.' |

Hello JLieberman,
Vista has some strange security features. Some people cannot run in Program Files, but can run their programs in other directories or partitions. Why? I do not know. Lawrence |

What does the "Unable to process Task data. Backing off..." message mean? I was running the UD all day yesterday with no problems. I booted up my computer (Vista 64bit Ultimate) this morning to find that WCG could not do anything because of this message. I just upgraded from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Business and got the same error. I changed the security on the "Program Files\World Community Grid" folder to add Full Control to Users and now it is working fine. Thanks! |
