See a Start Here forum for a post on Checkpoint saving. If one is not reached before switching off the computer, it will go back to 0%, or the last checkpoint saved.

Hello ansefad,
1) Do you never start at the last check point and always start at the beginning? 2) Which projects are you running? 3) Please describe your computer. 4) Have you ever successfully completed a work unit? 5) What speed is your throttle set to? What you are describing is abnormal, so we will need a lot of information to find the problem. Lawrence |

The Start Here Forum referred to in second post of this thread includes a full description of the speed control function in a post named "World Community Grid CPU Throttle Feature". HCMD has throttle control issues and presently does not respond to the tools settings. This is discussed in this thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11681

Hello ansefad,
BOINC is more difficult to set up, but it gives you more messages and more feedback on the Results Status page. You might consider switching from the UD client to the BOINC client: http://www.wcgwiki.org/en/boinc/migration.cfm Another thing you can do is to exit the UD client and then RUN SCANDISK C:/F assuming you are running on drive C to check the file system for errors. Hi everybody,
----------------------------------------I've experienced exactly the same behavior this morning. I use an "old" laptop (PIII, 900 MHZ) for running the UD-agent in order to support the "Muscular Distrophy" project. The PC ran since around 4 days (logged on) with a throttle on 90%. This morning, I had to reboot the PC and after 57% progress and over 75 hours computation time, the UD-agent restarted by 0% I have another PC running the "Proteome 2" project with the UD-agent and I did not notice such a behavior !!! Does the "Muscular Distrophy" project have a bug ??? Normally, I use BOINC but currently the "Muscular Distrophy" project is only available for UD Have a good day ! |

Please see my post a few up respective a description of the check-pointing . It's odd, as I've been restarting HCMD but not experienced the extreme losses.
----------------------------------------Important is to first snooze the agent, exit the agent to allow it to write any state files to disk. If booting is done by e.g. hitting the reset button on the PC, a good chance exists that open progress files get damages. Can you provide the Device ID and the approximate UTC time u downloaded the work, so the technicians can have a look in the database logs cheers

Thank you very much for your advice regarding the importance of snoozing the application before shuting down (respectively logging out) the system.
----------------------------------------Here are the requested information about the concerned device: - KERBS01W - Mon Feb 12 22:02:41 GMT+00:00 2007 - Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy It was still the primary task ! The device rebooted on Thu Feb 15 between 09:00:00 and 09:30:00 GMT+00:00 2007 and afterwards seems having downloaded a new task (? ...). Cheers --- PS: Why do tasks performed by UD-agents take so a long time in comparison to tasks performed by BOINC-agents ? |
