Survival Of, For and By the Fittest

A thread to post 'Current' stories in and about - let's put it this way - less intelligent ways of performing activities, that eventually may lead to the natural cleansing of the gene-pool. These events regularly celebrated on the Darwin Awards website.

This one about a person who went to buy some construction materials and setting off to transport it in/on a 'not fit for purpose' vehicle.

The Smartest Guy On Earth!

Enjoy

Added: there's a thread from early 2005 that touched on the award winning events for 2004. The 2006 awards were, posthumous, just added to the never ending stream.

Re: Survival Of, For and By the Fittest

That's absolutely PERFECT Sek. After this Monday, I needed that laughing As for the Darwin Awards, now THAT would be the perfect Super Bowl halftime show. Hand them out where folks can really hear about them. What with all the inevitable copycats, we'd have the gene pool rapidly improving in no time. biggrin I think you can add just about any nine out of ten crooks out there too. It's the one out of ten that the police really have to work to catch. I mean writing your bank holdup note on the BACK of your paystub??? What about the guy walking down the street, stopped by the police because he matched the description of a purse-snatcher and asked to come with them for a victim ID, goes and upon arriving at the site where the victim was waiting, get's out and tells the police "Yep, that's her." The best is the "lifeform" (it's hard to believe a human would do this) that decided to rob a bank at the intersection of one of the local main streets and the interstate here in town just as President Clinton's motorcade drove by. Talk about walking out to find a major police response laughing

Re: Survival Of, For and By the Fittest

It constantly amazes me how stupid people can be.
I read the article. He was going from Florida to Annapolis,MARYLAND with that load?
Even if the gentleman had no contacts in MD could he not have had the common sense to drive to Maryland, drop off the Mrs, go to a local Home Depot, pay what? $25.00 for a truck rental and take it home in safety?
OR if he didn't have an extra $25.00, make 6 trips from the local Home Depot to his building site?
(3000lbs divided by 6=500lbs and that car would handle that amount.)
You read things like this and realise that the good Lord wasn't equal to all when he passed out common sense.

Funny addition to this:
Back in 1968 I built my first hot rod. A 1962 Ford Falcon Ranchero.
Like a Chevy El Camino..2 seater with a pickup back section.
I wanted to know what the car weighed as acceleration is all HP/weight.
I couldn't think of a way to get a legit reading of the cars weight and then the light bulb went off. I drove to the local stone crusher/cement quarry and parked on the scales they have there. Walked inside and told the guy I need to pick up 1 ton of peagravel. He says sure but he's looking at my little Falcon and I spot the readout from the scales:2820lbs..That's all I wanted..
great little car but if you tried to put 500lbs in the back let alone 2000lbs it would have collapsed the suspension and tires..
Oh, for the memory people, the VIN# on that car was:
2H27S204554...and I haven't owned that car since the early 70's..
How I remember the VIN # is a story in itself.. biggrin

How about the idiot who while driving his winnabego, put it on cruise control, got out of his seat to make a sandwich in the back. He wrecked, sued the manufacturer for not putting this in the manual of things not to do and WON his case (multi millions).

I mean writing your bank holdup note on the BACK of your paystub???

There was a case of the computer operator who PRINTED the paystubs.

He backed up the computer job several times and printed his own paycheck over and over. He tried to cash them, all at the same time, but the bank teller noticed that all of the check numbers were identical. DUH!

Re: Survival Of, For and By the Fittest

Nearly 10 years old thread bump, for there was [all over the news], a new entry for the 2016 Darwin awards competition. Though again for the family and close ones a very sad day... why didn't they stop him?.. a tourist in Peru ignored all signs, all warnings by the guides, yet he did it... jumped in the air to get a free-in the-air picture of himself, to 'land' much further down in a ravine: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-36680663

My commiserations, unreservedly. worried

[OT] A man from Lima, Peru gave me while in-flight, a digital picture of Machu Picchu, which from a certain angle above the ruins shows the mountain in the back as contours of a giant head looking to the skies... one reason thought of as to why Machu Piccchu is where it is, adoration of an interstellar traveler: http://www.machupicchu.org/machu_picchu_facts.htm . Had the image for a while as desktop background on the laptop, to wonder what powers there were behind this location[/OT]

.

This has nothing to do with Darwinian Evolution as far as I can tell. More like the TV show '1000 ways to die'.

It looks like 'award winners' had reached puberty and if desired could find a mate. Many probably have children making them a Darwinian success. I suppose it would be distasteful to include children who died because they weren't quite fast enough.

I cant imagine Darwin would lend his name to this site. Especially since it misrepresents his theory.

@enels
Well it does: surviving of the fittest! biggrin

I have a friend which is an old biker...& every spring they organize a blood donations, to help out themselves or anyone in need...but he also tells the same joke "Spring has come & fresh organs to the market!" - referring to the fellow bikers with "not so much gray stuff", which end up on the side of the road, usually brain dead...& in Croatia, there's a law: if biker has an accident, they try to keep him or the body alive, 'cause all bikers ARE ORGAN DONORS!
cool
