Hi,
I am not sure if neccessary to create a new posting, but furthermore I am not interested in reading this forum, I simply want to make a bug report: Using "World Community Grid" + "Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy" the CPU throttle which is set to 60% (what I find acceptable) is not working at all :-(( the project keeps every available CPU power, my taskmanager shows CPU usage always 100% WCG is using about 92-97% of it and that is not acceptable This is the only project making problems with CPU throttle, CPU throttle works fine at 60% as it should be for the projects "Fight AIDS@Home", "Genome Comparison", "Help defeat cancer" and "Human Proteome Folding2" My World Community Grid shows version 1.0.1.2 for this Muscular Dystrophy project I am not sure how often this happens, but this is at least the 2nd time when I see this "problem" (also the 2nd time I see this project all all on my computer) As a result I disabled Muscular-Dystrophy in my World-Community-Grid setup. You might inform me, when this problem has finished. Kind Regards Joerg PS: I am running WinXPsp1 on a AMD Ahtlon-Classic (SlotA) 700MHz |

I am having the same problem and the same concerns. I unchecked the muscular dystrophy check box to see if that fixed the problem yet i still seem to be running the same project..

Hello keylay31,
After you uncheck the project, the nect work unit you download should be from a different project. Patience. Lawrence |

If u deselected HCMD and save the profile, u still need to finish the current job or terminate wcgridHCMD.exe in the task manager, before the (bad) result is returned and a new job of the other sciences is retrieved.
----------------------------------------Some additional throttle control code was introduced into the science exe but the developer (Viktors) advices "There must still be parts of the code where loops run longer than expected before hitting polling calls which control the throttle." Personally, i use Threadmaster to throttle any application that either takes too much, or just need not have normal priority like Spybot and ad-aware periodic scan software.

After some more testing on HCMD running on UD, come to conclude, that if the Tool variable is deleted and the WCGRID_MAX_CPU environment variable is put in place, this science responds well to the throttle instruction, be it 20% or 80%. If started with a second agent like Grid Republic or BOINC on the same thread, it get starved of CPU time, not completely, same as HPF2 on UD agent.

The throttle used with the UD agent is designed to run effectively at lower than lowest CPU priority. This means it will yield to another grid-like agent , virus scanner, or other process running at lowest priority. The agent watches the total cpu used on the machine and if it is above the throttle setting, then the agent backs off more and more to keep the total below that number. If something else is using 60% or more of the cpu and the throttle is set to 60%, then the agent will essentially stop running until the other program ends. There are minor exceptions to this which are descibed in the faq's.
Our throttle is thus designed to make the agent minimally responsible for excessive cpu use. |

Hello support,
I reactivated the Muscular Dystrophy project in my profile this morning again and got the 1st file assigned 3 hours ago and it seems to work correct now, or even correcter - regarding the taskmanager my CPU throttle is steady between 50-55% :) THX Jörg |
