Point Calculation

Hi Everybody,

I have a question about the Point calculation. I use an Intel DualCore with 2Go Ram and 6 Go free space on my HardDisk.

My Agent indicates :
Overall 212
Processor 255
Memory 300
Storage 118
Network 100

My statistic show :

Temps d'exécution total (a:j:h:m:s) (rang) 0:005:02:42:27 (#197 644)
Points générés (rang) 4 886 (#184 728)
Résultats renvoyés (rang) 52 (#136 253)

Moyennes :
Moy. Temps d'exécution par jour civil (a:j:h:m:s) 0:000:08:10:50
Moy. Temps d'exécution par résultat (a:j:h:m:s) 0:000:02:21:35
Moy. Points par heure d'exécution 39,82
Moy. points par jour civil 325,73
Moy. points par résultat 93,96
Moy. Résultats par jour civil 3,47

My question is How is calculate exactely the number of Point per result ?

Because my Father has a lower pc and nd these statistics show :

Temps d'exécution total (a:j:h:m:s) (rang) 0:007:00:58:27 (#186 507)
Points générés 4 250 (#189 761)
Résultats renvoyés (rang) 19 (#180 080)

Moyennes :
Moy. Temps d'exécution par jour civil (a:j:h:m:s) 0:000:11:15:54
Moy. Temps d'exécution par résultat (a:j:h:m:s) 0:000:08:53:36
Moy. Points par heure d'exécution 25,15
Moy. Points par jour civil 283,33
Moy. Points par résultat 223,68
Moy. Résultats par jour civil 1,27

How can I explain this difference ?

Thank's for all.

Re: UD Agent Point Calculation

Hi Thyreus,

here's an older post explaining the logic. What are Points all About?.

The essence is, the faster the machine, the more points per hour are earned. The more points, the more proud one can be of the contribution made to WCG.

I understand it, it's logical. but in my case i see the oposite crying .

My father's PC is older than mine and his scores are better.

It's not important wink i'm ok but just intrigue tongue tongue

Re: Point Calculation

The points to look at is the points per hour crunching. The lengths of the work units vary all the time like FAAH which can vary from 5-10 hours. A 10 hour job on a slower machine can make more points than a 5 hour job on a fast machine.

Is your machine running the short Genome Comparison and your fathers the longer FightAIDS?

Re: Point Calculation

Is your PC 4x faster than your fathers ....moyenne 2.2 v 8.5 hours? Your machine does 39.82 per crunching hour, your fathers does 25.15 which suggests less than 2x faster. What is his Agent Rating compared to your 212? Sure the profiles have HCMD selected as exclusive projects and nothing else slips/slipped in any time in the past?

Re: Point Calculation

for my profile it's true... I only have the HCMD and no sleeping time active...

this performance :
Overall : 126
Proc : 156
Mem : 134
Storage : 20
Network : 100

But In this profil he has only the HCMD checked but this Agent work for the Human Proteome Folding.... So we saved the profil. And now we wait for verifie.

Re: Point Calculation

One thing to consider is that the PowerPC architecture is known to be better for floating point calculations. If the program is floating-point calculation intensive, it is possible that it would perform better on the PowerPC machine to an extent. It's just speculation, but might explain your question.

Re: Point Calculation

HCMD only runs on Windows computers, but yes, would the project run on multiple Operating System platforms, which HCMD Phase II will do, the FLOPS performance of PPC could play a role, if FLOPS intensive.

Re: Point Calculation

Hello Thyreus,
I am uncertain just what your question is. The points calculation is explained in Start Here at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=1505
Here is the relevant quote:
my best guess for the points formula is:
Processor Score * 0.4 + Memory Score * 0.25 + Storage Score * 0.05 + Network Score * 0.3 = Overall Score rounded down to the nearest full number and capped to a maximum of 200

Your points per hour score is this value divided by just over 5.

So your computer is faster than the formula allows and you are running into the limit of 40 points per hour, which is the maximum allowed. You get 39.82 points each hour, while your father only gets 25.15 points per hour. If there were no maximum limit, you would get more than 40 points an hour, but the formula does not allow that. It was programmed years ago (in 2002?) and was given a maximum limit to prevent cheating. Since then computers have become much faster, but the program has not changed. Once HCMD Phase II starts, it should be available on BOINC, which does not artificially limit credit and will allow you to earn your full score.

I hope that answers your question.

Lawrence
