Bearcat, u could get an idea by visiting BOINCstats . Don't know all the particular processors inside them, but see e.g. 30) PowersMacintoshPowerMac7,3 287 for instance. How many running the UD agent is (?).

How many running the UD agent is (?). It kind of helped. I see a couple of powermacs listed but not sure the difference (ie powermac 7,2 and powermac 11,2 ) is. Just looking for the optimum setup. Cost wise, I could get 2 mac mini's cheaper than one powermac and have 4 cores crunching either way. The mac pro would obviously crunch faster but one glitch and the whole project is down. Multiple mini's with an upgraded core 2 duo would crunch pretty good and won't loose to much time if one goes down. But would consume more electricity with multiple machines. Maybe someone with a mac pro will post here what there getting and I can compare that to my core 2 duo iMac. Thanks for your help. Randy ![]()

If you are looking for a dedicated crunching machine I'd probably stick with a PC running Linux. There is no point paying extra for a Mac if you aren't going to use its entertainment features, which are its main advantage. Mind you, the Mac Mini is still pretty cheap, but a bare bones Core 2 Duo computer costs about the same or a little bit cheaper and runs faster (but uses more power).

I'll stick to my macs with OSX. BOINC runs smooth on it with no problems. Linux being an off shoot from unix and OSX being unix, I'll stay were I am at. My mini coreduo crunches almost as fast as my iMac core2duo so will probably stick with minis as a cheap cruncher. ![]()
