Beta Test for 64bit linux and FreeBSD

We are going to conduct a beta test later this week to determine if we can support FreeBSD and 64 bit Linux using our existing 32 bit binaries. This beta test will specifically test FightAIDS@Home. The platforms that will receive work will be the following:

x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
i386-portbld-freebsd

We will also be sending the work to existing Linux beta testers as a control.

Those of you who are interested in seeing this work - can you please have some computers set up to beta test starting around Thursday, Feb 8th at around 17:00 UTC?

thanks,
Kevin

Re: Beta Test for 64bit linux and FreeBSD

Ok - a quick update:

FreeBSD

We have sent out 26 results to FreeBSD computers. 23 have come back in error but they were all the same individual. In particular, the error was

2007-02-08 23:27:39 [World Community Grid] Process creation (../../projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/wcg_beta_autodock_5.09_i386-portbld-freebsd) failed: Error -1
execv: Exec format error

Which means this individual did not turn on Linux compatibility mode.

The other three results are still in progress. We will keep an eye on them. There are additional computers requesting work but their users have not signed up for the beta program. If you are one of these, please sign up so that we can send you work.

x64 Linux

We have sent out 33 results and received 10 back so far and all were good. We have even validated 6 of those so the 64 bit Linux is running well.

We are going to allow this beta test to run over the weekend and take a good look at the results on Monday.

If any of your are FreeBSD folks - please encourage your FreeBSD friends to sign up and join the beta test so we can get some better data!

thanks,
Kevin

Re: Beta Test for 64bit linux and FreeBSD

This test has been concluded successfully. We will be releasing FightAIDS@Home for the above platforms tomorrow. During the next few days we have updated versions of Genome Comparison and Help Defeat Cancer that we will be running through a beta tests. We will send out these test versions to these additional platforms as well.

We are also going to be doing a beta test of Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 on Linux as well and will be doing a similar test.

We are also going to look at a way to automatically send messages to FreeBSD users who attach but have not enabled Linux compatability mode since there were some users who ran the beta test but did not enabled this mode.
