Interesting X-Project Distributed Computing information on AIDS

This piece posted in the Genome Comparison forum showed up today subsequent to a question from a member:
.....But, if they are doing a predicted protein coding genes of n organisms, are they included hiv1/2 and hpv virus in this project?

Re: Question about the project

Dear Colleagues,

Yes, all virus genomes available in Release 19 of RefSeq (1667 viral genomes) were also included in the analysis. In fact, due to their small size (in average a few dozen Kb though some virus have genomes comparable to bacterial genomes in terms of size), viral genomes represent the great majority of genomes completely sequenced so far. On the other hand, for several reasons, annotation of viral genomes is very poor in comparison with the annotation of other organisms' genomes (which is in fact another point where our project may benefit researchers, since it is likely that the function of several viral genes will be identified during the comparisons).

Cheers,

Antonio

Are the physicists looking at this stuff too??!! If one can tweak ones outlook on our physical universe, enough to let this advanced biochemistry stuff come to the table... Isn't Antonio kind of begging the question??? At the molecular level, are we seeing a wave/particle duality in play??? Change in energy levels can induce change in shape, bringing about a change in the behaviors and reactions of all players. Or, gedanken.... a man gets on a train, sits in a seat, then at consecutive stops with more people getting on the train, the man gives up his seat, then becomes so crowded and frustrated with the crowding he elbows his companions for space, grabs the handholds, and lifts himself above the floor, bring his knees to his chests, then unfolds his body out 90 degrees, above all the other passengers. Imagine a gymnast on the rings, laying down in midair, suspended by his arms, with just that little 90 degree bend at the elbows supporting him. A means of escape! Or, a setup for another scenario...
Before you laugh too hard, let me ask you this? Hasn't the problem with HIV always been it's propensity to escape the clenches of the human body's immune system. And I mean escape! I say hiv escapes, shape shifts. It doesnt kill antibodies, it simply leaves them with nothing to do. The answer must lie in allowing hiv to "ride alone..."

I'm not omniscient, just a mortal Terranian earthling not able the suspend myself 6 feet above the ground escaping the 6 billion humans wanting to invade each others space. Have the knowledge though that i will end 6 feet under.....now that's 3 sixes. There were 45 new viral infections identified in the last few decennia. Maybe some environmentally induced leaping on the Darwinian ladder of survival for the fittest?

Gedanken.... die Menschen werden die Welt zum Untergang führen. Nach mir die Apokalypse?

Anyone in the know, may address your free flowing thoughts.....keep them coming thinking

Re: Interesting X-Project Distributed Computing information on AIDS

A molecule is enormous compared to a single particle like a quark, electron or photon. The Schrodinger equation shows that a molecule has relatively little uncertainty. So you are barking up the wrong tree. The HIV virus contains a molecule that turns off the anti-retrovirus machinery in a human cell, The protein sheath is studded with a constantly mutating coat of sugar molecules that disguise the virus, enabling the virus to evade antibodies.

Thanks, Lawrence
Forgive my poor German. And my feeble attempt at applying particle physics to molecular biology. But the core of my query remains.
Nature will generously try to find ways of culling the human herd, since we no longer live in harmony with nature. With our Earth. So, looking at all the wonderful, new viral family members coming to fruition, or simply arising from an epoch of dormancy, is witnessing a new miracle of sorts. I just wonder if we are on the right track, that's all.
