GNU/Linux Graphical interface.

I'm a really really really newbe in this matter. Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this.

My PC runs SuSE 10.1 and BOINC looks to work fine. I examine now and again the logs and there is no problem, but confused I would like to see some friendly information like a graphical screesavers or so. Where can I search for this information? Wich forum must I visit?

Sorry once again for spending a few CPU cycles in this question blushing

Thanks from Spain.

Re: GNU/Linux Graphical interface.

The current Linux version doesn't support screensavers.

You can view the graphics by running BOINC Manager and clicking on the "Graphics" button.

Please ask if you need further directions.

Re: GNU/Linux Graphical interface.

I do not want to create a new thread so I'll post here. I run OpenSUSE 10.2, two days ago I registered here, downloaded and gui (manager) worked gently:

But now, when I try to run it in a console it says:

dawid@pingwin:~/bin/BOINC> ./run_manager &
[1] 10834
dawid@pingwin:~/bin/BOINC> boincmgr: xcb_xlib.c:41: xcb_xlib_lock: Warunek zapewnienia `!c->xlib.lock' nie został spełniony.

Where(+/-): "Warunek zapewnienia"->assurance of condition [...] "nie został spełniony"->"has not been fullfiled"

What I have done before it was upgrading Xorg 7.2-rc3 to 7.2-final (propably, though it has not been announced at http://x.org yet), and among packages there was sth like 'xorg-x11-libxcb' - I've tried to downgrade it but the message doesn't change confused

Any suggestions?

Check out the URL in my post above https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=11411
and post a question there to the KDE team if your running KDE, which I believe you may, but I cannot tell from your screen shot. Any way they make direct you to the Gnome site folks. If that is what your using.
hope this helps
Also you need to send more general and then specific system info for a better answer. Sorry but it's hard to do guess work in today's variety of system soft/hard-ware. Create a little text file with the info and save it for cut and paste if needed for future needs.

Re: GNU/Linux Graphical interface.

I've noticed it even earlier you you posted here.

and post a question there to the KDE team if your running KDE, which I believe you may, but I cannot tell from your screen shot.

Yes it's a kde, apparently it was upgraded, at the same time as X.org, from 3.5.5 to 3.5.6, but I don't think it has any impact on (my guess from look&feel) gtk-based gui from package provided by this site (not qt/kde based kboincmgr). And as I said it was running (gui - boincmgr) flawlessly on the same hardware, older software., it all changed after today morning upgrade (software). Wait... - gtk was upgraded as well laughing So I suspect 2 software packages causing to stop running boinc gui - gtk: gtk-1.2.10-926 and xorg-xcb (xorg-x11-libxcb-7.2-16.6).

Also you need to send more general and then specific system info for a better answer. Sorry but it's hard to do guess work in today's variety of system soft/hard-ware. Create a little text file with the info and save it for cut and paste if needed for future needs.

Is there an ability to automatically create such an info file?

About that kde apps - I installed it from source (fedora rpm not compatible with suse), and I run a ~/bin/BOINC/boinc :

dawid@pingwin:~/bin/BOINC> 2007-01-27 20:46:32 [---] Starting BOINC client version 5.4.11 for i686-pc-linux-gnu
2007-01-27 20:46:32 [---] libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8d zlib/1.2.3

2007-01-27 20:46:33 [---] Local control only allowed
2007-01-27 20:46:33 [---] Listening on port 31416

Then I run 'kboincmgr', it's icon appears in system-doc-tray, I click it, file->connect [localhost; port: 31416] and I get 'no projects - probable connection failure sad

Thank you for the attention!
