I heard UD may upgrade their agent this year

This 'news' was put out in December 2006:

Planned:

"- Support for multi-processor and multi-core machines
- Support for cache ahead so that users can request multiple work units
- Enhanced non-intrusiveness options
- The possibility for members to generate their own tools, GUIs, and reports using a new Grid MP Agent API
- New look and feel for the Grid MP Agent GUI
- Improved support for Microsoft XP operating system – enhances support for multi-users and allows fast user switching
- Support for Microsoft Vista operating system (both 32-bit and 64-bit)
- Support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 7
- Overall performance improvements to the grid
- General defect repairs "

Do you think it will be much better than the present one?

Re: I heard UD may upgrade their agent this year

Hi halfcard,

Been following the drum signals and seen the announced timeline. What I have not been able to discern is, if it will run on Linux / Mac. In specification it's more modern times but missing e.g. an indication of having error and message logging.

Until then, WCG has a very 21st century alternate and with BOINC 5.8 Simple GUI and it's extensive specs and preference control moving to the client side from the web, I feel there is no rush at all to join the bandwagon.

What UD agent does is, it locks u into a single project, I dont think we're here so closed minded or angel

PS, here's a page showing what platforms WCG is running on under BOINC. Sort of Vista Ready and even still fit for Win95 ;>)
