I'm running BOINC 5.8.3 for Windows on Windows XP with "leave preempted in memory" set to no. I noticed that a faah work unit that was preempted by an HPF2 beta unit is sitting in memory. Is this a problem with the 5.8.3 beta code or something about the way the FAAH work unit is setup/coded?

jgoldsti, Any notes on the BOINC dev forum on this version 5.8.3? Certainly not seen on 5.8.2., but that said, i do use the 'keep in memory' as 'waiting to run (resume)' will cause significant time loss if the checkpoint moment was not used before switching project. When that's a solid and confirmed feature - and since u use it u could tell us - I might start using the 'do not keep..... ' It certainly would reduce memory pressures in a situation where running e.g. HDC.
----------------------------------------Because it involves a HPF2 testing, suggest u bring it up in the Beta forum too. thx Added: Just read 5.8.4 is out fixing the MD5 broken download issue with FCG1 work.

jgoldsti,
----------------------------------------Seeing u asked the same question at BOINC dev, the reply was that non-check pointed work units, on pre-empting would be kept in memory, regardless if the 'keep in memory' was switched off. A good protection against loss of crunch time and progress, but a burden on those with lower ram in the machine. Win some, loose some. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=1288&nowrap=true#7563
