www.fon.com - I know this looks like an advert but....

It's for a good cause and it's a bit like the World Community Grid in the way it works.

Instead of sharing your spare PC power you share a bit of your broadband to send out via a Wifi access point that creates a free to use (if you have one of these access points wired up at home) global wifi hotspot network.

At the moment once you've paid the relatively small purchase price and registered it with the system you can like Google Mail invite a friend to have a free Wifi Hotspot generator and so on and so on.

So why do I think it's for a good cause apart from being a great idea to create worldwide free wifi coverage which also turns a no wifi router into a wifi one

well...

Each Hotspot, when you log on to access the service, can present your own customised web "portal" and it would be yet another great way to introduce people to the World Community Grid by having links on there kind of like chr2002's idea in http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=8233 which I've had since the first day I read that post, but just going that one step futher.

I'm not making this sexy enough raised eyebrow

Check out http://www.fon.com

Hope this post doesn't get nelsoc'ed praying

Dave

Re: www.fon.com - I know this looks like an advert but....

Any chance of having the World Community Grid video here http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/newsletter/video/viewVideo.do uploaded to Google Video so I can reference it on my Fon Hotspot?

I'd like the source too so that we can get podcasting it
